Tivo with non-Tivo DVR

Dumb question (seems like half the threads start that way).

If I hook a non-Tivo DVR (with burner) to my Tivo Series 2, can I burn Tivo programs to a DVD and watch them on my DVD player? I suspect not, but please let me know.

Why not? I have a standalone DVD recorder (Pioneer model DVR-220-S) hooked up to my DirecTivo so that burn content for archiving/friends.

I've done analog transfers to my LiteOn 5045 DVD recorder from various TiVos many times.
