HD DC locals and a DVR to get them are finally available so I called and got an appointment to swap out my old box for the new one plus a new dish. I completely understand why I need the new box so I'm not going to complain about that. The one question I have for everyone, hope this is the right forum to ask, is what is the easiest way to copy or move all my shows from the old unit to the new one when it shows up? I have at least 100+ shows and about 30 season passes. You would think that with all the swapping of boxes they do this would be a very nice feature or service to offer.

Thanks.

Hmmmmmm, R U sure that you are getting an HR10-250 with that new dish, to receive HD locals??? Cause I'M pretty sure the new "local" HD stations are mpeg 4 and therefore NOT available on the Tivo box.

Oh, nevermind, you probably mean you are gonna get em OTA.

Right?

I already have a DVD recorder, but that will take forever to burn everything to DVD. I could do it with a hard drive but I don't like cracking the boxes open especially since I have to turn the old 10-250 in. Which leads me to the next question mst3k brought up. I am getting a new DVR which supports MPEG4 which the locals are in. So I am guessing I am getting something other than a tivo box? I'm a little afraid since I have been using the tivo interface for so long and would hate to see what D* came up with. I have seen many other cable DVRs and have thought all their options and UI is lacking from what tivo gives you.

The MPEG4 DVR is called the HR20. Info about this non-TiVo DVR can be found here.

When u swap units with the upgrade, they dont take your old tivo. They will relocate it to another room if you wish and if the tech wants to take it, there is something wrong there. The offer i was told is if you have a hr10-250 and own it you pay $99.00 and you get an owned HR20. They will relocate it for free to another room if you request. Same thing with Leased but its Leased.

Don't let them take your HDTIVO. It will still record all the SD channels fine for many years to come. Its good to have the HD networks and the SD networks. In case one of the networks HD feed goes down.

Plus the OTA tuners on the HR20-700 have not been activated yet.

Keep the HR10 for that and use the HR20 for sat channels. Def worth the $5/month mirror fee to not spend the next 6 weeks copying shows to DVD. The flexibility is awesome, you'll record so much you will NEVER see it all ;)

That's how I'm set up now, my living room has an HR10 and an HR20. I just retired my old GXCEBOT when I finished watching the programs that were recorded on it.
