My HR10-250 Dolby 5.1 Problem

My setup:

Denon 4806 Recever
HR10-250, 2 days old, with a 750GB harddrive + networking etc. Software version 6.1

The problem: With either HDMI or Optical, the sound is garbeled on many Sattellite channels (terribly) when set to digital 5.1 out. Going to PCM eliminates this. Switching cables does nothing. Switching btw optical or HDMI for sound doen't change anything.

This is the SECOND reciver to do this.

The Denon does fine with optical in for DVD's...there fore I don't think it is the culprit.

Direct TV is CLUELESS about this when I call.

Any thoughts?

Don't be so quick to dismiss potential problems with your Denon reciever. There have been cases where certain receivers have had problems with the DD stream from DTV. I don't remember which off the top of my head. You might call Denon just to see if they are aware of any problems.

It's not the 6.2 upgrade. I put the old drive back in..still the same problem. I am calling Denon....
