Well, I called TIVO yesterday to see if I could unhook my landline since I have my TIVO on my home network now...now this may have NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, as the tech. said it might be one of the software problems they are working on...but when I, for example, type in 25 on my remote (I have TIVO series 2 connected to General Instruments Digi. Cable box btw.), i punch that in, and it shows 05 first on the box (no picture, then sometimes 005, then 025 most of the time)

I can't figure out how just unhooking my landline would do that, of course it could have been doing that before becuase I hadn't used it for 3 or 4 days before I dissconneted my landline...

I did fix my "guide lagging" problem...i Just reset my wireless router, but this channel changing thing is really annoying....like I said tech. said it is probably software problem (I even went through the channel setup again), but this needs to be fixed, when I punch in a channel, I want to watch the channel I put in !!!

Any help would be appreciated

Peace

Did you move the IR sensor around when you were unhooking the phone line? That would be my first guess -- the sensor got moved and now it's aimed poorly and not as effective. Check to see that the IR sensor is plugged in and aimed directly at the cable box's IR window (shine a flashlight to check -- you should be able to see the "eye" that emits the signal).

If that isn't the problem there are a couple things you can do to enhance the reliability of your channel changes. It might help to try a different/slower remote code. You should be able to find that in the channel setup menus. If you're using a fast code, I'd downgrade it to medium or slow. Slow is really slow, so if the code you're using is unreliable even at meduim, I might experiment and see if there is a different remote code that works better.

Another thing you can do is to build a "fort" around your IR sensor and the cable box. You want a dark, enclosed environment, so that the IR signal can't dissipate and no other IR signals can get in. I use the box that my checks came in, cut to size and taped to the cable box, with the IR sensor inside the fort. If you do a search for "IR fort" (check the archives too) you should find a lot of other fort ideas.

Also, here is a very detailed thread with a lot of specific information about various cable boxes and codes that work well: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=128743

Hello thanks for the input, but I don't use the IR sensor, I have the Cable Box plugged directly into the TIVO, through the serial port

Are you sure your serial cable is really working? They are not always enabled (and that's on your cable co, not TiVo). I'd take a look at the linked thread and read what it says about your model.

Also, whether the serial cable works is dependent on the cable box's firmware. It's possible your box got a firmware update that turned it off and that's why you're having problems now. I have seen other reports of this around the forum. If that's your problem, you'll have to start using IR.

well it is working most of the time...it does seem like it kind of "lags", probably should try your suggestion about trying a slower code...i can't find that setting though...also you could be right about the firmware update because the Tivo rep. said they have recieved simlilar complaints....

The code thing is just for an IR setup. I've never used a serial cable personally, but I think it either works or it doesn't work -- I don't know of any TiVo settings to tweak it.
