View Full Version : Some upcoming showings are missing

I've been having a lot of missing upcoming showing problems on my HR10-250 since upgrading to 6.3a.
I have a season pass for Help Me Help You on 87 (ABCW HD) and I had to force the recording (went to View Recording History in the To Do List and scanned forward to that show, then went to More Recording Options and forced it to record). However, when I go to the SP and View Upcoming Showings, it showed no showings at all on any ABC channel, SD or HD. Normally what I should find is the next one or two showings/episodes, and there are usually four listings for each episode (7 LA7, 7-1 KABCDT, 387 ABCW, and 87 ABCW). What I've been finding since 6.3a is that I don't always get the 87 ABCW showing (and sometimes some of the other showings are missing) which is what my season pass is on. My SP has recorded this program correctly in the past.
So I wait for a day and look at the SP again and now all the showings are there, including a single checkmark next to the recording that I forced. Next day I look again and now there are only two showings, 7 LA7 and 387 ABCW. 87 ABCW showing is missing but the show is still in the To Do list with a single checkmark.
This has also happened at different times to various programs on CBS, NBC, and Fox HD channels, with no discernable pattern. I've only seen this issue with HD channels 80-89.
Here's another strange issue - I just checked my To Do list to see if Lost will be recorded on 87 ABCW by the SP. It shows that it will. So I go into View Upcoming Episodes and see that all four ABC channels are listing this episode (that's correct). However, the showing that I am recording on 87 ABCW does not have any checkmark next to it. So I go into that showing and it shows it will NOT be recorded (it gives the "Record this episode also" message). What the ...???
One last thing - I've noticed that I've been having more trouble lately with my service data downloads. I might get a successful attempt every other or third day. I now reboot my Tivo anytime it doesn't show a successful completion so that it will retry the download. Also, the issues I mentioned above still exist after a successful attempt.
Besides rebooting, I've tried rerunning Guided Setup. Any other suggestions? Anyone else have these problems?
Thanks,

Try deleting and recreating the season passes that are giving you problems...

I just tried to recreate the SP for Jericho (I've had problems with this show too) on 81 CBSW but there is no listing for Jericho on this channel when I search by title. It does list the show for channels 2, 2-1 and 381, but not for 81.
It looks like I have guide data that is incomplete and ever changing since showings appear and disappear randomly from day to day. This only seems to occur for channels 80-89 but I've also noticed it on 5-1.

I'm having same problems, I lost a few Everyone Hates Chris on 5-1 KTLA and I setup Friday Night Lights for repeat of Pilot but it was incorrect show.
Sounds like 6.3 is buggy.

So a couple of hours later I check again and Jericho is now also available on 81 CBSW. I created the SP and it double-checkmarked the episode it missed before.
Today, I go back and check again and this recording has disappeared from my To Do list again. View Upcoming Showings does not have it on 81 CBSW, but it does have it for 2, 2-1 and 381.

It might be time for the big guns, Clear and Delete,
at least the less invasive one, the one that kills everything but what you've already recorded.

I'm also having problems in some upcoming episodes of my season passes are
not scheduled to be recorded. They are listed and are first run episodes with no conflicts but, for some reason, they are listed as "will not be recorded." I have to keep a check on my season passes since 6.3/a and manually select some episodes to record (and I've done clear and delete for another problem).

I'm going to wait and see what tonight's download does to my To Do list before doing any sort of clear and delete.
Does the "Clear program information and To Do list" option only clear the guide data and the To Do list but leave everything I've already recorded? Does it delete all of the season passes?
Thanks,

It clears and deletes everything, you'll have a "brand new" unit after the c&d.
I had this happen week before last on 3.1.5f and no matter what I did, reboot, delete season pass, guided setup, was it working 100%. I was able to set it up for ota and then redid guided setup for sat and ota and some of the season passes were going to work, but not all of them. I decided was time to pull the drive and put in a larger one and start fresh. So far, 2 weeks yesterday, no problems.

I found that I had to go through all my season passes and select "Change recording options" .. then at that screen select "Record with these options" without actually changing anything. This seemed to fix all my season passes and didn't take very long. Note: If you select view upcoming episodes, you can check if the season pass manager is going to record a particular episode.

A few months ago my DSR6000 lost some guide data. I rebooted and the guide data repopulated in a day or so.

My download two nights ago didn't complete so I wanted to see what last night's download would do.
Now it appears that all but one SP (for 30 Rock) has the correct upcoming episodes. 30 Rock will still not pick up this coming Wednesday's episode. I've tried toms111la's suggestion but unfortunately it isn't working for me.
At this point I think the problem is with the season pass manager and not the guide data. For the 30 Rock show next Wednesday, it's in the on-screen program guide. So I think the guide data is complete.
Another weird thing I observed - only for channels 80-89, when I go to a SP on one of those channels, right under the title of the show it tells how many upcoming episodes there are. When I compare that number to the number of showings in View Upcoming Showings, it's never correct. There are always more actual showings than what it says in the SP. Usually (but not always) the difference is in the number of checkmarked shows. I do not see this problem with any of my SPs on channels other than 80-89.
Anyone else have this also?

I agree. Luckily for me, I am back at 3.1.5 and all is working well again.
PITA is correct, though. If a DVR doesn't reliably find and record what you've programmed it to do, it's not worth a great deal to me. Been spoiled by Tivo (and ReplayTV) in that regard over the years. They just work, and you need not worry about them doing so. Speed, features...all that's great, but reliability has to be job 1. I don't want to have to babysit the machine, or consider proper recording as a lottery.
DirecTV's new HR20 doesn't appear to meet the reliability standard (yet) by many reports, and even Tivo's S3 is having some problems with some cable companies.
Between the DMCA and content providers providing half-baked machines to their customers, I fear that the golden age of DVRs may be ending. Hope not.

I am seeing this problem occasionally, but on one of my 3.1 boxes. The 6.3a box seems not to have the issue.

Before I thought that the missing showings problem was confined to channels 80-89 but I just found a problem with my SP for Dexter on 71.
After last night's download, half of my To Do list is gone and a number of upcoming showings are missing from the SPs but of course they are in the on-screen guide. It wouldn't surprise me if I get most of those showings back tonight after tonight's download only to lose them again the next day.
This is so frustrating. I have to go through my To Do list everyday just to make sure that it will record the programs that it should be recording.
I wish they would "upgrade" us back to 3.1.5. I'm not looking forward to doing this manually and losing my recordings.

Interesting. Guess I've been lucky. I did notice a few weeks back that my to-do list was slow to populate itself with some of my season passes -- i.e., episodes matching the SP criteria would be in the program guide and should have appeared in the to-do list but were not. I kept an eye on things, and found that within a few days they did appear as they should, so I didn't miss any programs.

I am receiving the same problem. All of my Season Pass recordings are not being recorded. I have a Series 3 HD. I have 36 programs listed in the Season Pass Manager. All of those programs seem to have lost their future recordings. If you go to Season Pass Manager > Select Program > Arrow Right > View Upcoming Showings. There are several programs listed as upcoming episodes but none of them have check marks next to them. They used to have check marks next to some of them. If I delete the Season Pass and then recreate it, there are checkmarks next to the appropriate episodes. I have it set to record Repeats & first run. All of my programs seem to have lost all their future recordings within the last two weeks. It may have occurred during a recent update or program lineup change last week.
This issue is easily repeatable so I suspect it is a software problem.
In the To Do list the programs to record in the future are listed but they have None scheduled next to them. For example, Lost is listed on channel 707 KGODT in the To Do list, but it has None scheduled next to it and it has a purple circle with two checks in it. If you select the program and selects View upcoming episodes there are programs listed, but they have no checks next to them. They are new programs that haven't been shown in the past so there is no reason they shouldn't be recorded. As I stated earlier, if i delete the Season Pass and recreate it then it will show a future planned recording.

Let me know if there is any other info you need to reproduce this problem. I need it resolved.

My problems are with my HR10-250 which is the Series 2 HD Tivo so our problems might not be exactly the same. What I found was that restarting the tivo would cause the To Do list to change, usually with more shows correctly selected for recording. In a few instances, I powered down and waited for a while before restarting. However, even with restarting, I usually had a few unselected recordings. As of right now, my tivo has a correct To Do list, the first time I've had that in about a month. We'll see how long that lasts.
Have you tried restarting and, if you did, have you noticed any improvement (even temporary) in your To Do list?

I did not try to restart. I found a workaround. Not a fix, but it is faster than recreating all of the Season Passes. Basically, you go into the Recording Options again and select Record Season Pass with these options. This action appears to refresh the Tivo's list of View upcoming episodes and adds checks next to all the appropriate recordings. Here are the steps.
1. Press Tivo button.
2. Select Find Programs
3. Select Season Pass Manager
4. Select the first program in your list ( in my case this is Lost)
5. Select Change recording options
6. Don't change anything. Select Record Season Pass with these options. When you do this, the Tivo will think for a second. It will either say the change has been made or it will present you with a conflict screen as it normally does when you have a conflict. Make your change.
If you then be returned to the Season Pass Manager screen. Select the second program in the list and repeat the steps above. Do this for all your programs.
You can check if it is working by going into View upcoming showings and you will see a check next to the future shows it will record.
Maybe restarting would have been faster. :)
Tivo - Please fix this bug.
