View Full Version : Star Trek, and only Star Trek

I hope this isn't an annoying FAQ question. I really did hunt around a long time trying to find an answer.

Anyway, I've had Tivos for many years now, but I've never run into this situation before. I want to set up a wishlist to record the original series Star Trek regardless of which channel it airs on. However, all my attempts so far result in also recording all episodes of TNG, DS9, Enterprise, etc. This is mainly annoying because those reruns air so much more often that actual TOS episodes get expired out within a day.

Do I just have to resort to individual channel Season Passes? I'm hoping there's some trick I haven't run across yet that would help, because separate season passes makes it harder to control the total number of episodes kept online.

could you not do a wishlist with "Star Trek William Shatner"?

I don't mess around with wishlists much, but I think that you can put a second item on it as well, so something like timr_42 suggested should work.

I'd do a keyword wishlist for "Star Trek" Shatner

Of course, in all this time I've never included an actor in a wishlist. Excellent idea, thanks for the pointers.

i have had a wish list for star trek to get any and everything star trek - has anyone noticed however that TvLand has been scheduling ST:TOS at odd hours of the day and night and when I go to watch I've gotten Gunsmoke and various other oldies...and while we're on the subject what's with Bravo scheduling things like Farscape on the hour and then not starting it for as much as 20 minutes after it is supposed to start - has anyone else encountered these annoying things....

I've been recording the TVLand ST:TOS episodes, and yes, there have been some irregularities. Sometimes I get the last 10 minutes of Cosby, and the first 50 minutes of Star Trek. Other times, it's another show entirely. Also frustrating is the lack of episode descriptions (at least through my cable), which makes it impossible to weed out repeats.

Star Trek repeats? All the shows have been repeats since the last show aired on June 3, 1969! :p

That's the fault of TV LAND for not running shows on the same clock the rest of the planet is using.

Same thing with "another show entirely".

Your TiVo can only record what it's been told will be the Trek timeslot.

If TV LAND didn't run the show in that precise slot, or ran something else in it and never notified the listings service of the change, your TiVo won't know not to record.

Star Trek reruns can't be airing on more that 2 or 3 channels that you receive, right? Set up Season Passes for those stations and you should be fine. It wouldn't be hard to limit the number of episodes per Season Pass to something manageable.

Star Trek repeats? All the shows have been repeats since the last show aired on June 3, 1969! :p[I am very very sorry that you know that date.]

If any particular episode airs multiple times during the week, for example, is it not being repeated? If my Tivo records one airing, any of the following airings are repeats of the one I have recorded. That's what the whole 28 day rule is about - not recording repeats.

Actually I didn't know the exact date - that's what the Star Trek Wiki is for ;)

The Tivo uses the guide data supplied by the TV stations. If that info isn't supplied by the TV station - there's no way for the Tivo to determine the episode it's recording. You'll need to complain to the TV station to fix this.

"Ask and it shall be given..."

Now TVLand has episode descriptions for Star Trek. Thank you TVLand. Now Tivo can avoid recording DUPLICATES, while it records all REPEATS! :D
