I think this has been mentioned on the boards but I can't find it so I am putting it out to see if anyon has seen this. I just got 6.3a on Sunday and I also had my HDMI card die sunday night, I think I caused the card failure because I moved the HR10 sunday night trying to clear some dust off the machine (stupid I know). Well anyway on to the problem...

I scheduled a recording of NCIS on the local CBS station OTA, it was a repeat but I though I hadn't seen it so I manually set it to record. Well I sat down with the wife to watch the show and this is the error I got when I hit play:

"Viewing is not permitted using the Recorder's HDMI output. Try another TV input."

Well first off I don't even have a HDMI card in the machine (sent it to CCS for repair) and second I am using the component connections to watch HD on my Panisonic 47". So what is the hell is the box talking about??!?!?! At least it pulled this crap on a repeat so I really didn't miss out on anything, but I don't want this happening on anything else. If anyone has any idea please clue me in!!

A reboot might fix this problem.

Hey Jim,

Long time no read, I guess I will try that once CSI is done recording. I swear I read a similar thread about something close to what I described, I hope someone remembers and can find it and point me back to it. I tried the search but I found a bunch of HR20 garbage. Oh well guess I will see what comes up.

It appears Jim is right and all you need is a reboot.

Thanks much, started feeling like I was having a senor moment, glad to see it was just my memory failing me  . I rebooted but no joy, it tries to start but then goes back to the same error banner, so at least I know it is there. Could it be because the HDMI card is completely removed? I am going to completely remove the power and see if that clears it. I just hope it clears it ! thanks for the fast responses.

I had the same error last night for the Office and Earl. A reboot didn't fix it. rougue5, did you ever figure it out?

The reboot didn't work for me either. I was able to view the show once I reinstalled my HDMI card. I had gotten the error when I did an OTA HD recording while not having the HDMI card installed. Not sure why it would have mattered since I had the composite cables plugged in. I don't know, just know that once I put the card back in I was able to view the recording without issue. Man what a difference the HDMI makes!! I don't remember there being that much of a difference before, oh well all good now :) !

I have had my machine for 1.5 years and it has never had an HDMI card. All of the sudden it doesn't work :(

Forgive me for asking but what is an HDMI card ?? Is this on the HR10-250 and where is it located.

There are generally three ways to connect an HDTV signal to your television. Component cables (red, green, blue), DVI, and HDMI. The HDMI port looks like this:

Mine doesn't have one, just a blank hole. I bought it used and the HDMI card was bad, so they had pulled it and I just use the component.

Well, everything I have recorded since has been fine, including other shows on NBC, so I guess I will just cross my fingers and hope it was a fluky thing
