I currently have a hacked HDVR2 directivo with 6.2. Sadly, I am forced to switch to cable tv for HD due to a line of sight issue with directv.

My question:

I realize that without the directv stream, recording and guide data will be non-existent on the HDVR2. But without the directv service, can I still use the HDVR2 to stream video/audio/photos from my computer? Basically, will the software still work without service? I very much enjoy the ability to download video from the internet, then stream to HDVR2, and don't want to give this up

Thanks (tried searching, but could not find the answer)!

That is most likely a question for the Underground

Yes, you can. I have an HDVR2 in my room that is not activated, used only for MRV and music. It can't be done with SA units, but DTiVos work great.
