View Full Version : Tivo GoBack videos corrupted

I really hope someone can help me with this issue. Everytime I transfer a encoded mpg file from my laptop to the Tivo DT the video plays back corrupted.

When the video is played, the picture shifts downward considerably and has many lines thru it to make it unwatchable, the audio is fine. However the weird thing is if I pause the video or fast forward, the picture looks and progresses fine. Once I press play it goes bad again.

I encode the files like I always have, using WinAVI from .avi to mpeg2 files, nothing here has changed. I did just recently upgrade the TiVo to a 400gb hard drive using the InstantCake method. Until now I had thought it a successful upgrade.

I can transfer the video to my other single tuner Tivo and the video plays fine, and I can transfer TiVo recorded television using MRV and the video plays back just fine on the DT (although cannot playback files that originated from my laptop).

I have searched but this is an extremely wierd problem and I wasnt sure what to look for. :o

PS: I have attached some rather miserly photos to attempt to demostrate my problem. The paused screen shows the good video when paused or ffw. The play screen shows the video corruption while playing back the video.

Thanks for any help guys.

Taylor

I suppose no one has seen this issue before? When I get some time I will place the factory drive back in to see if that fixes the problem. I really want to keep this larger drive however this issue is a deal breaker :(

Try Patching the file with DVDPatcher. Change it to 4:3 even if you are encoding to 16:9 I've read a lot about people just changing their tivo to 16:9 but that definitely did not work for me. Everything I have is 16:9 but I have to patch the header to get rid of the every other line look.

As a test...try using Videora to convert a avi to mpg. Just in case you have a winavi setting that doesn't work well on the DT's.

I will try Videora however the last time I used the program it took 3 times as long to encode and the file sizes were twice as large for the same quality.

Also, why would the videos play fine on a ST and not a DT?

ok I switched to videora and now the videos work fine which is great.

Encoding takes forever compared to WinAVI but it will be ok for now.

If you are intrested in testing out a new program (may still be bugs) I have writen a server which transcodes files suported by FFmpeg(Supported File Formats (http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC20)) to mpeg2 compatable with tivos in real time while it transfers.

FYI - both my Tivos are Series 2 and I've had this problem on my newer Tivo (neither one is DT) but not on my older one. I tried transferring to the older Tivo and then to my newer one, but it still didn't work on my newer one. Guess something changed between models.
