View Full Version : R10 - Lots of artifacts, blacks out.

I have DTV R10.
At first, I was seeing alot of artifacting along the bottom of the screen, even when live
Recently, it's been 'blacking out'
All stations just show black. Satellites are fine.
Works fine after rebooting it.

Possible symptom of early hard drive failure. Sorry.

probably 2 months old.

How long does it work until it needs another reboot?

couple days, maybe a week.

Could I just take the drive out, boot to Norton Ghost and ghost it to a new hard drive?

I replaced the drive and it's still happening.
Everything works fine until I leave it alone for a day or two, then I come back and it's black for live TV

I installed a powered multiswitch, same problem.
It's almost like it loses signal for live and then just gives up trying to reconnect
I'm going to plug it into my main entertainment room and see if it does it if I use it constantly.

Check your Temp.... goto Messages&Setup/System Information scroll down 3 times. It should be 40-45 deg C.
It could be running hot with not enough venting or fan not working.
Just another idea.....

Fans are definitely working. just rebooted it, will check temps again next time it crashes.
this time it crashed and the last image on the screen was frozen on the screen.
The TiVo progress bar shows 0:00 and 'REC'

after a reboot, temp was showing 33C (Normal)
I think I'm gonna move it into my big room tomorrow
maybe it's the Coax going out.

I am on my third unit of R10 d* crap, they all fail or so it seems, I been rebooting this last one for about 8months now it is completly black screen, the tuners just go out. just not a good unit. will replace it with my old samsung R4080 . was going to have a tech come out sunday but really think it is a waste since when he finds all is well they will just send me another R10 NO thanks. IF D*t ever stops supporting the older " functioning" direct tivo units I will switch to TIVO completly.

ok I vented thanks an good luck (may I suggest ebay and pre R10, D* tivo unit)

so, yours does the same thing as mine?
today, mine did it again.
It also said my account had been closed and my DVR service needed to be reactivated.
luckily, I only paid $60 for this unit new.
What other units are there?
I JUST bought the 160GB HDD for it
will that swap to another unit? I don't want to have wasted $140...
I'd rather just reboot it daily if that's the case.
