Okay techies...I need some assistance and am hoping one of you geniuses out there can help me...

Came home the other day and found my HDVR2 cycling on the "Welcome...powering up" screen.

Pulled both drives, ran SpinRite (at full level 5) and found no errors...

Background info: 2 drives, HDVR2, upgraded to 6.2 by me with HMO, folders, etc...

My questions are:

1. With the 6.2 version, is there a way to force it to boot off of the alternate copy of the software? At least I thought that there was always a backup copy of the software on the drive (I could totally be wrong) but don't no how to engage it.

2. Let's say its not the software...is there a way to rewrite the boot information without losing the data on the drive?

3. Any other magical ideas to not lose my 270 hours of shows

Any assistance is appreciated...

Thanks,

Michael (aka MessyMarvin)

I'd ask this in the upgrade forum.

MakeTivoBootable once "fixed" one of mine that wouldn't boot. Worth a try.

How do you do that "MakeTivoBootable" once?

Google MakeTivoBootable.

Download and burn a tivo linux boot disc image.

Download the MakeTivoBootable executable file. Put it onto something that can be read once you boot Linux from the CD created above. A floppy, another CD, something.

Attach your tivo drive(s) to a PC and boot from the linux cd. Do not boot XP with these drives attached.

Mount the gadget containing the MakeTivoBootable program and run the command with the appropriate command line options.

Something like that.
