I am a dedicated tivo user. I have lots of questions of the "how to" nature like
1- How can I upgrade my tivo machines or computer so that i can copy recorded shows at computer speeds? presently I have a DVR burner hooked up that can only record at the time or speed I view. Can I go to some type of computer hookup and patch thru the usb port for copy purposes? Can I employ my computer lan network? Where do I get details for such things?
2- I have a HD-250 HD receiver. I guess directv will never give me a folder upgrade for my recorded programs (like my lesser units have) is there anyone hacking that? maybe I could bring my machine to them (Portland, Or.) perhaps for the computer trick too?
3- Where is there an easy to use help area for these type problems to consult? or written

For 1 & 2: Since to own a DTV model, what you are looking for is called extraction and is not allowed here. Try googling here (http://www.google.com/search?q=tivo+extraction&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official) DDB is a good one but tough on noobs.

You can accomplish what you want in #1 by using the Zipper to hack your HR10-250. Directv is currently in the process of upgrading the software on these units to 6.3a once it has this software a couple things happen:
1- You will have folders and faster speeds like you do on the othere units
2- The Zipper no longer works without some manual interaction.
So you have two options:
1- Zipper it now while it still has 3.1.5 software and then read about and upgrade to 6.3a yourself to give the funtionality that 6.3a provides (folders and fater speeds).
2- Let it get the 6.3a software upgrade automatically and then wait for the Zipper to get altered to work with that software version.
Note: If you hack it before it gets the 6.3a software update with the Zipper, the functionality added with the Zipper will still be there and work properly after you upgrade it to 6.3a.
Here are a few good thread to read:
