Is there a simple app that will allow mpeg's on a computer to be accessed via my tivo? Kinda like TiVoPlayList in reverse?

I know tivodesktop does it, but I'm looking for something that I can simply start when I need it and shutdown easily when I'm done. Maybe something that does not want to load as a service and/or load other tsr type apps that want to constantly run in the background?

Sorry if this is a repeat question. I tried searching, but I'm afraid I don't quite know what to search for.

Tivoserver? That seems like it would do the trick, but...from the Tivoserver Sourceforge site:
Unfortunately you will also need to hack your Tivo and apply the Superpatch. ... We hope to someday support "out of the box" Series 2 Tivos, but it is no currently unclear how attainable that goal is.As I have been spoiled using TiVoPlayList on an unhacked 540, I was hoping to avoid hacking the box. I just recently got a 240 though, so I guess it wouldn't be so difficult to setup that one to use Tivoserver. But if I hack the 240 it wouldn't be able to talk to the unhacked 540 anymore.:(

Looks like I may have to roll up my sleeves, break out the tiny soldering iron and have to start doing the "Look out! Here comes an update!" dance routine, eh?

Thanks for the info, though!

:DIf you're going to use a box strictly for tivoserver, your cheapest option is an unsubbed DirecTivo. Most of them go for under $50 on Ebay, and I got my last one for $20. Note that you will need a DirecTV access card, any access card, for it to work.

Id a Standalone Series 2 is what you have, the latest TiVo Desktop and Galleon has the abaility to serve MPEG2 video and .tivo files to your DVR.

The good news is that WSewell has added galleon-type serving to tivoserver... the bad news is that it isn't quite ready for primetime
