Question about Hookup

Good Afternoon, Heres what i got. I got a TV with and HDMI Input, however my Audio/Video Receiver does not have an HDMI Input, i still want surround sound, Can i connect my HDMI Cable to the TV and then contact my Optial Auto Cable to my AV Receiver to get Suround sound?

Also if i do this, will the sound be coming out of my TV Speakers as well as my Surround speakers, because i dont want that. I want it just out of surround speakers. I ask this because i know HDMI Carriers both Video and Audio.

If your AV receiver will take optical, that should work fine for the audio.

You should be able to turn off the TV speakers in the setup menus of the TV.

This is exactly the same setup I use. I just turned on my TVs "internal mute" mode to get rid of the sound from the TV speakers. Although you could also just turn the TV all the way down and that should work as well.
