I have the new series 3 and a new Hitachi HD Plasma. I also have a Bose lifestyle system.

I have the tivo hooked to the TV with the HDMI cable. I have Tivo connected to the bose with red and white audio cables.

At times, I notice the lips aren't in sync with the audio. Is there another way i should be hooking these up?
The Bose really limits me on options - I have one oplink connection, but I have it hooked into my dvd.

I have a s3 and a 30in hdtv. I have the s3 hooked to the tv through component cables with comcast digital cable.

I too have been experienceing some shows(randomly, having audio video syncing issues) This has been occuring since I have had the unit. I have searched the forums and havent really noticed anyone else with this issue other then us.

I was planning on calling tivo's cs today to get it resolved. Ill keep an update

Thanks - I'll keep searching as well. It's driving me nuts - because it is random. I think I'll hook up my oplink connection from the tv to the tivo and see if that helps.

Guys, from my experience with HD over the past two years this audio/visual synch problem is usually coming from the broadcast. The ABC affiliate in my area is famous for it.

I too have had this problem and no it is not coming from the broadcast. I know this because I don't see it on the same TV with direct connected cable or from the same TV with a series 1 Tivo connected through a cablebox. Also, I don't see it with a cable card connected smaller TV in another room. I noticed this the first day on many channels, after a reboot it went away only to come back every once while now. when it does come back now changing channels on both tuners seem to make it better or clear it up.

just to reiterate, I didn't this problem until my series 3 and I see it only on my series 3.

I've noticed it to. If I pause playback for a few seconds and then unpause it usually fixes itself.

I have had the problem also, but during live TV. It was a non-HD channel. Changing channels and changing back fixes the problem. Has never occurred until the last "update".

Well I have a very basic system - no HD.

My S3 is on SD, no cable cards, on an SD TV and I have A/V sync issues about half the time on multiple shows on my S3.

Never had an issue with my S1 or S2.

Maybe some of this is just not properly configuring your receiver for the right viewing distance?

LOL. Yes, try adjusting your viewing distance until synchronization is achieved.

I never had this issue until I went to HD and to the TIVO S3. I've heard this is a common problem with HD because video processes faster than audio or vice versa with HD. They apparently sell Lip Sync correctors for this very issue. I can't imagine having to spend more money on top of a $3000 plasma and a $800 Tivo to have audio match video. Pausing and then playing does not fix the issue. It happens only on HD channels and during live and playback.
someone suggested leaving the HDMI cable and going back to good, very good, individual component and audio cables. We'll see.
Apparently this is a very common problem with HD. I learned a bit too late that some Plasma units have a lip sync corrector within the unit, but of course mine doesn't! too much to learn!

Get real.

My setup is entirely SD.

AV sync sucks.

Never was an issue with the S1 or S2s.

So you are saying that you are using S3 all SD and you still have audio sync problems?

I use my S3 in both HD and SD via HDMI and s-video and I don't have any sync problems.

Yes, it is SD only.

Not using any HD (don't subscribe to it, don't have an HD TV) - bought the S3 to be ready for the move to HD and take advantage of lifetime transfer.

I have an entirely SD setup too and get the audio sync issue. The pause and play trick works but is annoying to do 2-3 times per show sometimes.

I'm using a basic non-cable card Std Def setup as well, and I also get sync issues of about 1 second very often. I've had 5 other Tivos (Series 1 and 2) and in 6 years of using those, I think I saw a sync issue maybe once per box. I bet I've seen dozens on my S3. (FWIW, I'm also missing closed captioning on nearly half of my recordings and I'm also getting 0:00 recordings for OTA HD signals--which are recorded as suggestions as I don't have anything HD capable besides the S3.)

Let's say I'm a little disappointed to find annoyances that I rarely if ever saw on S1 or S2 on my $700 S3.

Don't know about the other comments here, but I have the same HD Audio/Video sync problem. And ONLY on HD. I only see it on KDKA HD and TND HD channels here in the Pittsburgh, PA Area (Comcast - former Adelphia system). It is consistent and uncorrectable. I do not have this issue on any other HD or SD channels. The audio is ALWAY several (very noticable) milliseconds behind the video.

Comast blames the Content providers...

Just FYI, my configuration is Series 3 connected via HDMI to my Toshiba 62MX196 HD TV. My receiver is then connected to my Toshiba TV via Toslink Optical. I see the sync issue no matter if I am using audio via the internal TV speakers or through my Receiver. And again, it is only on KDKA HD (CBS Affiliate) and TNTHD.

I have audio/video sync problems only on TNTHD. All other stations (that I watch) are fine, and I can't do anything to fix the sync problems. Hitachi 57" CRT, component connection.

Since I connected the optical digital audio cable and also the red and white analog cables between the TIVO Series 3 and the Bose Lifestyle 48. I have not had a synch issue. It's also important to have the correct input selected when viewing broadcasts and to mute the televisions internal speakers.
