+1 No.
It may be worth a few bucks (if you own it, assuming you do) try craigslist or ebay.

DirecTV/Tivos only have satellite tuners. They cannot be modified to receive any cable TV channels.

Wow, it's been a couple of weeks since this question has been asked, so guess we were due for one. :)

Actually, it's only been a couple of hours (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=322859) . ;)
Granted, it's a hard topic to search for, though, since everybody will phrase it a little bit differently. :)

It would be nice if the very first section of the FAQ mentioned this

I wonder how many people ask if their cingular (gsm) phone will work with verizon (cdma) on a regular basis.

This question DOES get asked a lot (and vice versa.) Any one person probably asks it once only.

Isn't that information about the DirecTV DVR only working with DirecTV in the manual and also on the box? :)

Well, that would mean getting the manual back from where it is holding up the short leg of the table and actually READING it!

It's not an unreasonable question for someone not familiar with the inner differences and who doesn't understand the technologies involved. Same as the GSM-CDMA phone issue. Most phone users couldn't tell you what they have other than "Verizon" or "Cingular", etc.
Heck, as a compiler developer, I kept seeing questions if our compiler for x86 would work on a Sun SPARC or IBM Power box. If you don't understand what a compiler really does, it seems like a reasonable question.

In response to this I have one question. Will my Lexus run on Lemon Juice?

I am pretty certain it could not be 100%, but perhaps a low percentage in a blend? :)

no, but you might be able to use a directv receiver (like the Hughes HTL-HD) as a cable box.

Sure. All you need is a LOT of lemon juice, a bunch of copper and zinc strips, and the hybrid Lexus. An easy weekend project. :D
