I just received my replacement Tivo--

Tivo had already transferred my authorization--!!!!!!

My defective one had difficulty in recognizing my remote
and it stubbled, stuttered and rebooted --thought to be a hard drive problem

The new one--

has a different color of the lighted face plate --more yellow than orange/red

and a noisier hard drive

SO:
Do you thing the red/orange might have had some IR interference?
Do you think the hard drives in the new machine have been changed because of occasional problems??

There have been various reports of the yellow vs orange face plates. I think this is just a different run of units that came out slightly different. Nothing to worry about there.

The noise could possibly be a problem, but unless it gets worse, or to a point where it too loud, I wouldn't worry about it.

Since I can't really see your display I don't know what to say about that, but my hard drive has always been quiet and I don't have any problems.

So what you're saying is that the color of the display is cosmetic and the remote's interference was taken care of some other way--

.......and that the drives on all the Series 3 are the WD Sata drives.

The color is cosmetic. The remote issue seems to be an issue with bad IR receivers in some units. (a few others have posted about this) I personally have two S3 units with the orange faceplates and the remote works just fine with both of them, and I've seen a S3 in person with the yellow color faceplate so I know what you're talking about.

The drives in all S3 units are the same.
