Won't use ppp to dial out

Hi all. I've not been on this forum for quite a while. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have PPP set up between my Linux box and my Philips series 1 tivo. I can telnet from my Linux box to the Tivo, but can't get Tivo to use the ppp connection to dial out (I am trying to change config from "antenna" to "cable").

My Tivo dial prefix is set to ",#401". This has worked in the past, so not sure where to look to find out why it's not working now.

Any ideas of things to look at?

Do you have multiple NIC cards (e.g., Wireless and Wired?). I had an issue with it trying to connect to the internet via an unconnected wired connection. After I disabled the wired connection, it connected fine.

In the Tivo, you mean? No, no NIC cards at all. Doing PPP over the serial port.

Waht happens when you ping from the TiVo to an IP on the outside (eg 204.176.49.2 , one of TiVo's servers?)

There isn't a ping command on my tivo. This is a pretty old Philips HDR112 - series 1 box...

But good news. I got it working. Not sure what the problem was, but I found a backup image I'd saved to CD a while ago. I restored with that and this time it did use PPP to dial out. Wish I knew what was different between the two, but after spending a good 10-12 hours of working on it, I was just glad to get it working again.
