I've just purchased a S3. I have a large amount of recorded material on my old S1 unit. No ethernet interface on my old S1. Is there any way to transfer all of this recorded material to the new S3?

Thanks,

Art

Not with its etherent, at least at this time.

Just leave your S1 on side an view its recordings as desired.

Art Well seing as you didn't specify you wanted an efficient way to do it... of course you could transfer them by manually one by one in real time by connecting S1 output to S3 input and using manual record. Of course I can't recommend this method for obvious reasons but it is one way to make a transfer.

This would have to be thru the antenna tuner, correct?

You could do that... I've recorded off my FTA satellite box that way. I combine that boxes RF-modulated Channel 3 output with my OTA antenna. Fire a manual tuner for channel 3 and you are all set.

Places like www.9thtee.com sell ethernet adapters for the Series 1. However, there's currently no way to get it to the S3 via ethernet. I'd be surprised if TiVo didn't offer that capability (importing video from PC) in the future since they have it on S2, but at the moment it's tied up with all the other features like MRV and TivoToGo that are waiting for CableLab approval.

Right. Antenna and cable are the only inputs besides ethernet on the S3.

This would have to be thru the antenna tuner, correct? Correct, the S3 antenna or cable input could be used (channel 3 is the same frequency for both). However this is largely academic as nobody would want to do this for a large number of programs given it's a real time process, the loss of quality involved and not to mention that each recording would not have a descriptive name in the Now Playing list to be able to distinguish one from another. I did similar such transfers of old VHS tapes to my ReplayTVs - at least with ReplayTV you can manually edit the name given to the manual recording to be whatever you like.
