I feel reasonably certain this will qualify for Dumb Question of the Month, but here goes -

I've just stepped up from a Series 1 Sony SVR-2000 to a Series 3 TiVo, and as I turned in for the night after bathing in the glory of my local HDTV channels (the OTA tuners are really wonderful), I realized that, unlike my Series 1 box, there's no "Power On/Off" button on the Series 3 remote. Did I miss anything? I realize there's no actual need to "turn off" the TiVo when I'm not watching anything with it, but after six years of turning off both the TV and the TiVo, I find it unsettling to just leave the TiVo on continuously.

Thanks,
Evan

You missed nothing, or the fact that the SVR2000s "off" was just standby mode, the DVR was stil operating. If it puts your mind at eas, you can put the S3 in Standby mode also.

WHY?

My Series 1 has been on for the last 4.5 years. You're only talking about standby mode anyway... it's not really off. The disk is still spinning....

The disk is still spinning....Oh, sure, I realize turning the Series 1 box "off" merely stopped sending a video signal out, but we're talking about retraining six years of reflexes. I get exhausted just thinking about it... ;)
