I have a 3 LNB dish running through a 5x8 multi-switch to 3 Directv Tivo units (2 inputs per unit. There are only 3 cables coming down from the dish into the multi, should there be more?

The reason I ask is I occasionally will lose access to the Sat 2 input on one or another of the Tivos, not always the same one. I also get a left side not detected on 119 sat.

Any ideas?

Yes, you should have FOUR cables from the 3-LNB dish connected to the four satellite inputs on your multiswitch. I wonder why only three cables were connected?

The installer probably thought that since there were only 3 DTiVos that only three lines were needed. :)

Anyway, you HAVE TO HAVE all four lines from the dish to the multiswitch inorder for everything to work correctly.

So the tech guy comes out to the house today betweeb 1-5 (just like cable) and agrees I need a 4th cable run down from the dish. Great! Uh oh, he only has a 12 foot ladder, won't reach to the top of my 2 story house. He says, you will have to reschedule and tell them to bring a big ladder...

Hmm, got a postcard in the mail from Comcast today...

That's pretty sad.

Don't let an idiot installer turn you to the dark side!

After 3 years of being without Satellite decided to switch back to Directv after a bad experience with Comcast Cable Digital Voice Service.

Satellite guy showed up today between 1 -5 just like cable. I showed him where the 4 boxes were to be located. The old Sony/Directv Satellite was still in its original position. All he had to do was take down the old dish and install the new, so I thought.
He replaced the dish. No signal. Drove around the neighborhood didn't see any other Directv Sattleite installed. Asked me to trim a bush. Still know signal. Advised me that he would have to place the dish on the roof. I said OK do what you have to do as long as it on the back side of the roof. At this point he let me know he had only been on the job 2 weeks and I should reschedule ( I translate this he was afraid to go up on the roof). Heck I don't want an inexperience person up on my roof, especially if he is scared. The house is 2 + stories. it is a long way down.
