R10 modem *answering* phone?

Occasionally when someone calls my house, a modem picks up the phone and gives a modem carrier tone.

The only modem in the house, and the only one plugged into the phone line, is the modem on the R10 DTiVo in the bedroom.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Try leaving it unplugged and see if it stops.

Our R10 was causing some weird phone problems for us - including not disconnecting after a call, making an exceptional number of calls/day, and trying to dial out while the line was being used. I know others have posted about the R10 causing similar problems for them.

Our solution was to just disconnect the phone line and plug it in once a month or so when daily nag messages start coming in.
