Sorry for the noob question. I recently received the D* R15 DVR and it is way too buggy for me. So I went and bought a Phillips DSR704 off of Ebay which has an AC included. I want to make sure I do this correctly. Do I just call D* and tell them I am adding a new receiver and give them the AC#? Do I also need to tell them it is a D*Tivo model so I get the Tivo features, and if so will I be charged another DVR fee? Unfortunately the R15 has a 2 year committment associated with it, so I don't think I can just swap it out with the DSR704? This is the first time I've owned a Tivo. TIA!

Yep. Just call DirecTV to activate the DSR704 DVR. But depending upon that DVR's previous subscription status, they might not let you activate with its current access card. But then again they might. Worst case they'll want to send you a new access card for $20.
You're only charged one DVR fee no matter how many DVRs you have. And it doesn't matter if they're Tivo's or non-Tivo DVRs.
They might let you "swap" your two-year commitment to the "new" DSR704.

Thanks for the quick reply! That clears things up. I'll give DirecTV a call. Thanks!
I'm adding a used DTivo to my acct too.
Would it be better to use an AC from one of my boxes that isn't being used any longer? In other words, would it be better to use an AC that I have had all along and just put it in the new previously owned Tivo and then cal DTV to activate it?
Does the card have the history stored on it, or do they know where the box has been regardless of the AC that is used?
:)
Anyone have an opinion on this? :D

If they'll let you do it. They've done it for me both ways. I added one once and I had to buy a new card ($20). I had forgotten about using old cards from boxes I didn't use anymore though. A couple of months later I added another Tivo and I asked them about that and they did it no problem. You'll find that it depends on the CSR that answers the call. Kill them with kindness....it's worked for me every time!

Just an update. I called D* CS and I was able to transfer my AC from my R15 to my DSR704 with no problems, no questions asked.
