You can't reset the clock yourself.

You have to force a call and once its tied into the TiVo server(s), the clock will be corrected.

Odd that the thing isn't regularly connecting and correcting the clock.

Have you left it not connected to a phone line?

What type of TiVo do you have? (Series number, model number, and so on.)

I'm not up on connecting thru the internet, so someone else will have to help you with that.

For the Series 2, you can hook it up to the network. Go here:
http://www.tivo.com/adapters
You will need to get one of those compatible adapters. If you want to go wireless, get the TiVo-branded one.

Once you get things hooked up to your computer, you can
- Transfer shows to your PC
- Listen to music from your computer on your TiVo
- Look at pictures from your computer on your TiVo
- Quick online-scheduling
- And more. There's a bunch more standalone applications that can do cool things once you connect online.

You don't need to hook it up to your computer. What you need is to hook it up to your internet connection. For that you will need an available ethernet port.

I suppose you could hook it up to your computer if you had 2 ethernet ports (since 1 is being used by your pc to connect to the broadband modem), but typically you would use a router or a hub. The cable from your broadband modem would go to the input side of the router or hub, then you would connect your pc and Tivo into the hub or router. The advantage of this is it doesn't matter if your pc is on or off, the Tivo is always connected to the internet.

And with that you can disconnect the phone line.

WO312's right. Using an adapter from that page I linked above, you plug that into your TiVo in the USB lot, then plug an ethernet cord from the adapter into your router. You only have to have your computer on if you want to transfer shows to/from it, want to listen to music, or view pictures from it.

I'm not sure where you are, but Microcenter - if you have one near you - has the Linksys router/switch on sale this week for $39, which is a pretty good deal - $20 off. Additionally, if you're hooked up to the internet now via broadband and you *don't* have a router, you really do desperately need one anyway - the basic firewall and NAT (network address translation) that you get there can save you hours and hours of pain later. Even if you have a software firewall, it's still good to have a hardware one as well, so even if you decide not to hook up the Tivo, get the router anyway! :)

first off are you sure the clock is really off? It gets set by tivo on it's daily call- i beleuive to a NIST atomic clock - so it's probably not off. I dont think it's likely that it gets a couple minutes off over the course of a day.

What is more likely and happens all the time is that your clock is correct but the content providers aren't following their published schedules.

This happens most frequently on popular shows where they add more commericals in the middle and as such the show winds up being 61, 62, or 63 minutes instead of 60.

You can try to lobby the broadcasters to at least update tribune with the correct times of start and stop (tivo buys their guide info from tribune)- but real world is you need to pad those shows.

If this is the problem you are having- you'll notice it's usually the same few shows being difficult and the rest are fine. Lost on ABC a while back was like this regularly. NBC used to do it all the time on thursday nights way back when they were dominent in that block with friends and all.

This is what I was wondering...if it's still connected and is making calls, why is the clock not being corrected?

The only thing I could think was that it had a bad modem, but with it being a Series 2, it'd have to keep its programming list updated.

Unless this is a TiVo with a serious problem, it can't actually be the clock.

thanks for all your replys....as the clock goes it may be a tv network issue as michaelk suggest as it mostly happens with certain shows...
now this INTERNET hook up thing has me scratching my head???? im a cheap charlie so im looking for the cheapest way out ...i really don't need or want a router if i can help it and i have no use for any wireless compatibility as of now so...
WHY can't i just by a usb cable..cost 30usd..hook it tvo to usb on pc then leave my telephone jack connected to tvo and record as normal and then when i want, turn on my pc and do the tvo internet stuff????

Thats not it in my case because I have observed that my Tivo thinks its 6:30 1 minute sooner than what my cable box states, and whats on TV isn't even starting yet until the cable box says its 6:30.

Its the Tivo itself that is off on my recordings, which pisses me off considering that I have to pad every single recording for 1 minute just to be able to see the last minute of every single show.

And yes my Tivo is always connectewd and I have forced connections, and it doesn't fix it at all.

I wouldn't neceassarily trust your cable company either.

what does your cell phone say? The towers are apparently set by the gps satellites which are very accurate.

what does it say in reference to
http://www.time.gov

that will tell you which box is off.

I tend to think that if the 1 or 2 million tivo's that get their clocks set by the tivo service where all off 1 minute there would be a lot bigger thread about it than this.

Of course I could be wrong- but the time my box is getting from tivo works just perfectly for the vast majority of my recordings.
