I ordered an iPod nano from tivo rewards on 7/25/06. I received delivery on 8/18/06.

Just over one month later, I had to send in the iPod for warranty service. I was charged 31.82 by apple for the service because they said the unit had originally been purchased in 11/05. The unit was still under warranty, but only until 11/4/06, and as it was more than 6 months from purchase date, I had to pay shipping. (less than 6 months, they pay shipping).

I expected anything received through the tivo rewards program to include a full manufacturer's warranty, but apple says since tivo is not an authorized reseller, my warranty will expire in less than a month.

Am I in the wrong to expect full warranty on any items I get through tivo rewards?

Is there anything tivo can do to help me get my money back from apple and get my warranty extended for a year from the date I ordered/received the ipod?

That kind of sucks, but doesn't surprise me... I noticed they have some old or discontinued items (Zen, 60GB iPod without video, XM MyFi) still for sale, so I assume instead of ordering them when rewards are redeemed they pre-purchased a bundle. Probably not the savviest way to do business, and in this case you are getting a raw deal.

You are free to expect anything you want.

I doubt it, since they are not an authorized reseller. You probably should have asked tivo for a replacement.

I imagine TiVo would warrant TiVo units obtained as rewards for the whole duration of the warranty, starting from the day you order them, but I don't see how they can do that for products they don't build. Would it be nice if they did ... certainly! I doubt it's likely, though!

And to make matters even worse, the replacement they sent me for the initial defective iPod I received from TiVo Rewards is also defective, and they're sending me another box so I can ship it back to them and wait for them to ship me another! :(
