Wow! Sweet. I wonder. Is it so long so as to cover up all the network drivers. etc, loading? :)
how annoying would that get after about 3 viewings?

The TiVo startup movie we have does seem a bit pointless, but it was originally designed to blend into the menu system and be more of a part of the overall look and feel of the whole TiVo experience.
On the original American Philips season 1 TiVo (the only one I've seen) the end of the movie seemlessly blends into the menu system. Indeed, as the menus display, you can see the animation continue beneath the menu. Cogs can be seen turning back there and every few seconds you can even see TiVo Guy zipping around on his little shute. The meaning of the "narriative" of the opening sequence becomes apparent - TiVo is there doing the donkey work for you, selecting the programmes you want to watch. This is then reinforced by the background animation during the menus.
I suspect there was a bit of a rush to get TiVo onto the UK market so the same animation was used but then bolted onto the blue sky background animation of our menus - which I suspect was used to blend in with the Sky box's look and feel due to the fact that at the time of launch, TiVo was "as recommended by Sky Digital". The only vestige that remains of this now is the "as recommended" text that briefly appears at the end of the start movie before it's quickly brushed under the carpet when the menu systems kick in.

This animation has been around a while... it's on the 540's as well as the S2DT's...
I like it... and people don't have to sit through it if they don't want to; pressing any key while it is playing will exit the animation... many kids love to play it over and over...
