Ok so i've been waiting and searching for the right Tivo deal since I missed out on the baseball/kid zone deal.
I have found this
http://www.tivo.com/2.1.1.0.ws.asp?p=Pack0306&WT.cg_n=AffP&WT.cg_s=Pack0306&WT.mc_id=AffP_Pack0306
not sure if I should get the HUMAX® DVD Recorder or just the S2 Tivo box.
anyone know anything about the HUMAX® DVD Recorder?
Whats better a HUMAX® DVD Recorder 40hr for $100 or a S2 140-hour TiVo® box for $50?
thanks for the help guys!
I'm planning on buying tonight.

Get a dual tuner S2 Tivo unless you really want a DVD player or recorder. None of the deals on the page you linked are for dual tuner models. I don't know what the best deals are right now, though.

If this is your first tivo, probably get it from tivo.com
if you already have one, buy from a retail store and use the multi-service discount and only pay $6.95/month

I second gtrogue,
Unless you really want the DVD burner I would get the DT. I have a single and Dual Tuner. The DT is great. When my year is up on the S2 single tuner I will probably repalce it with a DT, just because they have ruined the S2 single tuner's speed.

I think if you buy the Humax DVD-burner model, you can still buy a lifetime subscription for it. That's an important consideration. :D
A dual tuner would be nice, but I really enjoy the ease and speed with which I can burn a DVD of a show on my Humax.
Note: While I recall reading about the special lifetime subscription eligibility for Humax DVD units, I don't know if these refurb units sold by TiVo under this deal will qualify. Please check with TiVo before buying. :)

From the way the TiVo peeps have always described it, think it's only new, never suscribed Humax boxes that qualify for Lifetime. But who would want to pay $300 on a Lifetime of standard def at this point? ;)

darn it! i knew something was fishy......
i don't really need a DVD recorder. I have 2 computers with them, but they are MACs so im not sure if you can copy shows over to them to record on dvds. anyways, if the ST suck then I don't want one, i rather pay alittle more for a DT. But I don't think i will be recording two shows at the same time.
i can hold off longer. i rather buy what i want then settle for something else.

and I will somewhat disagree with JustAllie.
She is right that the DVD burning in a TiVo could not be easier, and the DVD playback of the TiVo I have Toshiba RS TX20 is just like TiVo playback and I watch all DVDs on it now - I really do not use the DVD burner much at all.
but
Forced to make a choice they would never get my Dual Tuner that records two things at once with SO much less conflict decisions needed on my part.

But I don't think i will be recording two shows at the same timewell I have no idea of your TV viewing habits but I lived nicely enough with a 40 hour single tuner for at least 6 months. Now I definitely need the two tuners, could not deal without. The new TV season with good options on at the same time accounts for a good bit of it.
bottom line,
once you have the TiVo and use it for a few months your TV viewing habits will alter considerably and for the considerably better. I would not place a lot of weight on current TV habits when making a decision.

Forced to make a choice they would never get my Dual Tuner that records two things at once with SO much less conflict decisions needed on my part.See, I solved this problem by buying two Humax DRT800 machines. This was a rather expensive solution. :o But at the time there was no such thing as a Dual Tuner standalone TiVo. And you can only burn a show on a Humax that's recorded on that Humax, so having a second TiVo that wasn't a DVD model wasn't going to help if I wanted to burn two shows that were airing at the same time.
That said, I have ended up using the burning feature much less than I anticipated. If TiVoToGo actually worked on a Macintosh computer, I'd consider selling my two Humax machines for a Dual Tuner. But I'd really miss the pleasure of watching a DVD with the TiVo interface. I love having Instant Replay, skip-to-tic, etc.
Let me point out another good TiVo deal for people who would prefer a Dual Tuner model:
http://www.tivo.com/0.11.summer.asp
The nice thing is that this is a 180-hour dual tuner box. If you can't use the wireless adapter, you can sell it on eBay. And since you prepay for a year, you don't have to worry about monthly bills for a while.
Hurry, the deal expires in a couple of weeks.
If you like this deal and don't have anyone else to give your referral to, referrals always happily accepted. :)
