Can't hurt to spend a buck to find out...and pass it on to the rest of us. ;)
That sounds like a terrible exploitation of TiVo if it is true. :(

Well Tivo is offering one free year if you prepay (3yrs is the same price as 2yrs) however the form says that they have being doing it for 5 years now. I dunno... something def is not right cause Tivo would def go down the drain with that business plan.

Scam, scam, scam, scam,
scam, scam, scam, scam,
wonderful scaaaam,
beautiful scaaaam,
scam, scam, scam, scam,
scam, scam, scam, scam.
(sung to the "Spam" song by Monty Python)
On one hand, it would be fun to do it and see what they say....but on the other hand, I think it would be more fun to just report this to ebay.......Though ebay may say they are doing nothing illegal and that there is a sucker born every minute, but I doubt it.......

If you want fun, report it to TiVo ("I don't like using eBay -- please tell me how I can get free years of service like that"), not to eBay. Let TiVo report it to eBay. :)

This seems like a scam to me. I got the e-mail and it is use my e-mail address since I am a beta tester and you get free service. Is this legit?

The story is that this guy is a beta tester for Tivo and gets to give away five free years of service out in one year intervals. The catch is that you can only use it once per tivo box, and it must be used on a new set up of tivo. When you get to the screen of who referred you you need to enter his e-mail address. To me this sounds like a scam trying to get a large number of referrals.

By the time you find out that you already paid he has his referral on that TiVo and you can't take his referral back even if you cancel within 30 days. After the first 17 people he has his new series 3 and $17. By the time TiVo cancels his account he hopes they have shipped his Series 3.
Nice Scam on TiVo..hope it is stopped

I've sent a report to Ebay explaining that this is a scam. All of you can do the same, and it will help in convincing Ebay to take the auction down.

I didn't bid, I just sent him an email inquiring about his 'scam'. I didn't say scam though :)
Here is his reply.
OK here is the tivo deal. Short and simple. I have been with tivo since 1999. Back when they were barley heard of. Well I signed up to be a beta tester and one of the benefits of being a tester is that I get to give five free years of service out in one year intervals. So through out the years my sister ( who also is a tester ) have been giving tivo and service to our family as gifts. Well now that just about everybody in my family has tivo we figured to give them away. Per our tivo rules and guides we can not charge for this service that is why we are giving this for free. The catch is that you can only use it once per tivo box, and it must be used on a new set up of tivo. I will also be sending out an E-card from tivo with instructions on it as well. If for some reason you do not receive the E-card when setting up your new tivo service use my E-mail address were it asks if any one sent you to tivo. Donp25@verizon.net
I will be sending this info to everyone that requests it so act fast as there is only 10 free years available.
Thanks again for your interest in tivo service
Don
Donp25@verizon.net
Again per tivo rules and guides I am NOT charging for this.
Someone from TiVo please ban this user from the rewards program.

I forward the e-mail to Stephen as that is the only Tivo contact I could find info for. I have also reported the listing to eBay. He has updated his listing with his e-mail he sends out. Hopefully Tivo will take care of his rewards account before he gets in his order.

the jackhole says he has gotten over 100 emails, but yet his ebay add only has 58 hits. I really hope someone at TiVo does something about this scum bag.
There is an update to that auction.

Actually the best Tivo deal ever was I just heard from a kid at best buy that about a few hours before we got there he got a regular 80 hour series 2 for $25, and then he can do the $100 mail in rebate!!! nothing like a free unit AND $75 towards the service :)
