Yay! One down, one to go (Studio 60) for shows on the bubble that I'm watching.

Good news! I still think they'll have trouble staying away from the "peril of the week" rut, but I'm interested in seeing how this plays out.

Skeet Ulrich in, Ray Liotta out. Who knew?

I am hoping now they got the full season order early they can take a few chances. A few weeks were it is not super jake doing some heroic thing is the main story line. The show has so much potential for cool or different story lines. I guess it does not matter what they do mr. hawkins has me so damn intreged I will continue to watch.

Yeah, it still baffles me. Was Smith really doing that badly?

I think CBS has gotten spoiled. If it's not made by Bruckheimer and it doesn't get boffo numbers out of the chute, stick a fork in it.

Wonderful, a show that's looking more and more like a dud (I predict the "monster of the week") gets a full season while cool mysteries like Vanished and Kidnapped get cancelled (I know Vanished isn't technically cancelled yet, but I've never seen a show that was banished to Saturday nights come back from it).

Kidnapped is moving to Saturday and will end after the 13th episode.

Justice has replaced Vanished on Mondays. The actual announcement of Vanished's cancellation is (I believe) at this point a mere formality.

I have been meaning to get into this one, but it keeps rolling off before I can see it. I will have to try and go get the frist few episodes and catch up now.

Justice has replaced Vanished on Mondays. Correct. Vanished is actually running on Fridays after baseball ends - it's not on Saturdays nor is it on Mondays, as I mistakenly posted. The actual announcement of Vanished's cancellation is (I believe) at this point a mere formality.I don't see that yet. I think some recent developments on the show could prevent that from happening.

I don't know how badly it was doing. I was definitely enjoying the show.

Very happy to hear Jericho will be a full season....this was one of those shows that snuck up on me...I wasn't planning to watch, but I Tivo'd the pilot, and was hooked.

On- or off-screen developments? Would you care to elucidate? I'm all for Vanished not being "cancelled due to neglect", but

(a) Even unsophisticated viewers know that a move to Fridays is generally considered one step away from cancellation. Knowing it's likely you won't get to any real conclusion that isn't half-assed because the writers are probably busy compressing it into a fraction of the needed time, and you'll miss the conclusion entirely if they aren't, is a big inducement to stop watching, especially so for a serial mystery.

(b) Fox is heavily advertising Justice's move to Monday after Prison Break, but as I recall that ad doesn't say where Vanished went, nor have I seen any ads telling us Vanished is now on Fridays. That suggests viewers who aren't in the know like us, which is probably most of them, will conclude Vanished has been cancelled. Not knowing the new timeslot usually kills viewership and ratings (see "neglect" above).

I don't know how it was doing, but IMHO it was really bad.

They're going to drop a bomb on Vanished pretty soon.

I thought Smith has potential but seemeed like one of those things that had to build up to a good show, ya know.

Jericho, however, started out really good but its starting to get old and boring real fast.

Drop Vanished and keep Justice? To me this makes no sense. Justice while being OK is exectly the same every week whereas Vanished has an ongoing story to keep me engaged and comming back.

That's probably the problem. There's a surplus of "appointment" shows that you have to watch every week, and probably a limit to the number of nights the average viewer is willing to stay home planted in front of the tube.

Jericho, however, started out really good but its starting to get old and boring real fast. I agree. They're not doing a good job of weaving in the soap opera aspects in a realistic way. (I'm most irritated by the affair between Eric and Mary.)

As for Vanished, I think it's horrible, but having watched the first few weeks, I am curious to learn solution of the mystery. I didn't watch the last couple episodes, but I did read here to catch up on the big plot points. (Waste 5 minutes of my life instead of 40). I hope even if it's cancelled there's someplace where we find out who done it.

Spoiler tags please. I am behind on these as I didn't want to get too committed until I knoew it was going to stay.

Glad to see it's staying around at least for a season. I like the show.

So is CBS the new FOX? ;)

It might not have been doing so badly, but it was pretty expensive to produce with those well-known actors, so I imagine with the salaries, the cost was a factor. I liked it.

This is the exact reason I bought a Tivo. I've upgraded my hard drive just so I can save some series for summer viewing. :D

On- or off-screen developments? Would you care to elucidate?Regarding the recent developments on Vanished ... (Note: If you are behind, this is a MAJOR spoiler, so read at your own risk!) The lead actor, Harold Gale, is being replaced by Eddie Cibrian. The character of Kelton was killed off in the last 5 minutes of the last episode. Eddie Cibrian's character will be the new lead investigator on the case.

This appears to have been planned all along, as these episodes were shot before the series even aired. IMO, this addresses one of the biggest complaints many of the fans have had, that Gale is just not dynamic enough to be the lead on the series, so the casting changes may keep some viewers who were on the fence before. I'm all for Vanished not being "cancelled due to neglect", but

(a) Even unsophisticated viewers know that a move to Fridays is generally considered one step away from cancellation. Maybe Fox isn't expecting much in the way of ratings on Friday and will be happy as long as Vanished pulls better nnumbers than whatever it is replacing ...

Are old Jericho episodes available online? My wife and I decided to start watching it, but we only heard about it a couple days ago, so we didnt' see the first few episodes.

There were no spoilers in what you quoted. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Glad to see Jericho got picked up. At least now I know it will continue, even if the shows have been getting less and less enjoyable.

As for Vanished, I won't be at all surprised if the ratings are significantly worse on Friday nights, but FOX knows that will be the case as well and has learned its lesson (Reunion) about cancelling a serial without letting fans see the ending. Since they're not expecting much from any show on a Friday, it's probably better for the network to burn off the series and keep a few million fans happy than it is to cancel it altogether and risk that nobody will tune in the next time they premiere a serialized show.
