Hee Hee--The Nine on Ten Eleven . . .
Sorry couldn't help myself. Was surprised that there hasn't been a thread launched yet, so I'll do the honors.
I liked last nights epsiode, but thinking back on it now, I'm not at all sure why. I like the cast, or at least a good portion of the cast . . . and I'm still interested in finding out about what happened . . .
Interesting to learned that it was the duaghter who called the police, but I have no idea why she keeps going to see the guy in jail.
Also interesting move for the doctor at the end.

So the pre-credits intro shows each of the nine hostages, including dead teller chick, with a number on them, counting them off from one to nine. I think, okay! They've definitevely answered the question as to which nine people are "The Nine".
Then the credits roll.
The title screen has nine faces on them with the words "The Nine" superimposed over them, so one would think that's as blatant a statement of who The Nine are as showing nine people with numbers on them, right? But now, the dead teller chick isn't there and the jailed robber is.
WTF?!?!?!?
The producers are clearly going out of their way to increase the ambiguity and confusion.

From what we've seen so far, I think there's a lot more to the jailed robber's story. It seems that at some point he became a 'victim' to his brother as well. Seems like the brother may have 'snapped' or something, because there seems to be sympathy for the jailed robber from the rest of 'the nine'.
I'm enjoying the show, but I wish it was a limited run (10 to 15 episode) series or a mini-series. I'm very interested in finding out what happened during those 52 hours, but if this show has an open-ended run, then what motivation do the writers/producers have to completely tell that story.
It's kind of weird that I feel that way about this show, because I love the pace of Lost and feel like that show can take as long as it likes to tell whatever story needs to be told.

The show just got it's leash for me (two more episodes). I can't put my finger on what's the difference between this and good multi character dramas that I enjoy. Maybe it has that Reunion "Gee, what a shocker that THAT developed" thing to it (obviously the daughter made the 911 call the second they all dropped their phones, obviously Egan was going to fight back at work and want to constantly hang around with everyone all the time), or maybe that I don't have enough sympathy for anyone. But it's moving slow and not engrossing me, but i don't feel ... dislike. Just ambivalence.

I was surprized that they dropped the idea of going to the media. I thought that fight was going to be what it was all about. Maybe they still will.
Egan shouldn't have any problem finding a new job now that he's a hero. The little dude who was his boss was way over the top. Not believable at all.
Wasn't the DA lady's mom one of the hostages? Why isn't she included in anything?

We still don't know how, exactly, the cops screwed up the hostage negotiations. I'm beginning to suspect that the reason the nine might have some sympathy for the robber is that the cops did something really nasty and very deliberate during the 52 hours that they want covered up. The nine may not know the cops were responsible, that's why they aren't talking about a coverup. I know that sounds odd, but this seems to go far beyond mere "you got a hostage killed".

Interesting to learned that it was the duaghter who called the police, but I have no idea why she keeps going to see the guy in jail.
I honestly believe she doesn't remember, until her 2nd visit to the prison to see him, we hadn't seen any "flashbacks" from her. All the flashbacks have come from someone else or from the timeline they showed at the beginning of the show. I do believe she's trying to jog her memory.
I was surprized that they dropped the idea of going to the media. I thought that fight was going to be what it was all about. Maybe they still will.
I was also disappointed they didn't pursue this line. But, I have a feeling it's not dead yet either. They have the whole season to get around to telling us what happened. I at least hope they haven't totally dropped this part of the story.
By the way, good move by the doctor!

During the interview with the Times reporter, it was indicated that Matthew Fox was involved in them releasing a person, and there was some debate as to why it was the mother over the injured guard. So the mother was in there, but for an undetermined amount of time less than The Nine.

Wait, who is matthew fox. Isn't he on lost?
It's definitely more than the police having gotten a hostage killed. If that were the case, the cop wouldn't have anything to hold over the entire police force . . . it's a much bigger deal, but I have no idea what.

Big difference between Tim Daly and Matthew Fox :p

Yeah, he's like a sitcom character. Maybe he's the boss all the sitcom characters are based on?
Do you think maybe that insurance company is in for some bad press soon? Do you think maybe Ricky Gervais will be joining Dr. Phlox on the unemployment line soon?

The show got the axe from me this week. Just couldn't get into it. I was interested in the Egan parts, but really that was about it. Soon as I realized I was FF much more than I was watching I figured i'd save myself the hassle in the future.

I'm speaking out my backside, but...
Since when can you give a reporter a huge scoop like that and then call them and ask them not to publish it.
In my mind, it will get published. Even if they have to hide a few names or call them "a person inside during the robbery said...".
I could be wrong, but that story is too good. The reporter and her boss(es) will run with it.

Egan's boss was bugging me because I knew I recognized him from some child-star role he had. Turns out he was Chip on Kate & Allie - way back when.

I guess I'm different about this show in that I don't care how long it takes to reveal the back-story of what happened in those 52 hours. I'm willing to go along each week watching the characters interact and getting a few pieces of the puzzle revealed.
However, I would really like to know who The Nine are supposed to be! Like busyba, I immediately noticed the discrepancy between the nine characters counted out in flashback style and the nine faces pictured in the opening title sequence. Make up your mind ABC!
