To correct a misunderstanding many people seem to have, they are not switching to Tivo software. They are going to offer Tivo software as a paid upgrade for subscribers that choose to pay monthly for it.

As the previous posters indicated, the Tivo software will be a premium service -- probably $5/mo extra -- and is slated for availability in early 2007.

I know some rumor sites have posted this, but has Comcast formally/publicly stated that? Where?

TiVo stated it in their initial press release (that it would be a premium software upgrade).

Actually, they said it was going to be offered as an option, not a premium software upgrade. The only place I see it being called premium or at extra cost is at the techie rumor sites. Time will tell, though.

Well, I don't think it is specualation at this point. It is going to be a premium upgrade according to pretty much every source I have ever read.

...and worth every penny. When TWC Houston changes to Comcast, I hope I can do this. Unfortunately, they are currently offering only Scientific Atlanta, rather than Motorola boxes here. My understanding is that the software upgrade will be on Mot boxes only?

My understanding is that the software upgrade will be on Mot boxes only?Certainly the Motorola boxes will be first. I've heard conflicting reports as to whether or not they are looking to offer the software on SA boxes down the line as well.
