So I guess we'll find out next week whether or not they won the game.
Is each episode going to cover one week?

I think you answered that question in the first part of your post. :D
They are not each going to be one week as they didn't finish up friday this week. I am guessing next week's episode will be almost completely about the game with some stuff that happens after the game thrown in. Just my 2 cents.
I really liked it.
I thought the scene when coach went to the kids house then took him out to the field at night was really done well.

Agreed.
And Smash's mom was perfect when she was talking to townslut.

I think it suffered from the same problem as last week. The first half was fairly boring while the second half was pretty good. Watching it last night, I don't see this show lasting. It was good enough for me that I will keep watching, but the people who don't like sports already aren't watching. The people that do like sports might not want to sit through all the "town happenings". Seriously how many more times can we have a scene where the townspeople are telling the coach that he needs to win

NBC's "Friday Night Lights" drops ball in debut (http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=televisionNews&storyID=2006-10-04T194254Z_01_N03401096_RTRIDST_0_TELEVISION-RATINGS-DC.XML)
They're all watching "Dancing with the Stars", which got more than twice the number of viewers.

This is an hour show that has maybe 20 minutes worth of material.
One great scene per week. The rest is all music video with shots of houses and very simple dialog. The pacing is horrible. Speed it up.
The one great scene this week was the one after the coach picked up the QB and they went to the stadium. Very powerful stuff. Maybe they can do like My Network is doing and do a recap every month and the show would be wonderful.

I liked it again this week the show is very enjoyable. The show is in trouble the ratings have not been very good. It happens to me every year one of my top 3 new shows gets cancelled.

Your link certainly didn't provide any correlation between sports fandom and FNL viewership.

True. I am just using anacdotal evidence. Based on my experience with people who dislike sports, they will glance over anything that looks like it's sports-related. With the one possible exception being the Olympics. People around here will tell you the same with a critically-accalimed show called "Sports Night", which really didn't have much to do with sports at all. It was more about the relationships of the characters, but it failed as well. Same deal....viewers think it's about sports and automatically some turn away.

I don't know where I fit in. I like sports but don't generally watch football at all. I have been watching and enjoy the show. I don't have a problem with the pacing. It's about what I expected going in.

I am enjoying the show. I hope the ratings pick up. I don't want to have a second show I am into end up being cancelled. I already lost Smith. Sure it wasn't that great, but it was entertainment.

I would enjoy this show a lot more they would invest in a stedicam or something. Does the cameraman have Parkinson's disease?
Seriously, shaky-cam was unwatchable whey NYPD started it over a decade ago, can't we retire this technique already?
Season pass deleted on camerwork alone.

Shakey cam is bad enough, but can't they at least zoom out so I don't have to see all the touch-up makeup on the actor's faces?
Question, though. Why did the QB (now first-string...whatever his name is that no-one can seem to pronouce correctly on the radio) not want the coach to come into his house, and why didn't he want his grandma around when he did?

He's embarrassed at how poor he is.

And his grandma shows this more than the house???
I thought the grandma was going to be the surrogate for the crazy mother in the movie.

Overall, I'm enjoying this series, but are we to believe that the "best high school football team in the state" has a backup QB who never bothered to learn the offense? If they're that good, they should have at least some depth at the important position. It's not like it's rare for a QB to be injured.

That was the same problem I had with the pilot. I am enjoying the show so far, but that part is a little hard for me to swallow.

I predict an early shower for this show, which is a shame, 'cos I like it.
There is a real danger of it becoming a teen soap and there is not enough material in the high school sports realm to keep it interesting. After all, anyone interested in this show is involved in the real high school football scene and do not need the extra drama.

I agree with most that the pacing was incredibly slow. And we get that the town REALLY REALLY cares about this team. And the shaky cam is driving me nuts. There was a scene where the coach's wife was talking and the camera zoomed in on part of the booth next to her, cutting off half her face while she was talking. What's the point in that?
I really wanted to like this show. I'm a huge high school football fan. I'm in Texas. I loved the book and the movie.
I am so disappointed in this show so far.
One more episode and if it doesn't improve, SP cancelled.

Well, I was pretty sure it was going to be cancelled, but the other day Rosie O'Donnell/View was gushing about what a great show it is, and I'm curious to see if the ratings will be up this week because of her plug.
