I had heard wonderful things about TIVO and received my Series 2, 540 box running 7.3.1 on 7-13-06. I record about 6 hours/day with generally excellent results.

HOWEVER, over the last three months, I've had the following problems:

1) Occasional freezing/pixellation x 15-30 sec during recording playback which generally resolves. However, approx 1-2 times/week, I have a freeze which requires rebooting. Temp is normal. No clicks from hard drive. I update via a phone connection.

2) 4 instances of "no video connection" when attempting a scheduled recording.

3) Slow navigation across all TIVO menus.

I've looked at all the HELP threads here. I called Customer Service and got TWO completely different answers. I was initially told that the problem centered upon the 7.3.1 OS which would "eventually" be patched. I later was told that my "symptoms" were more compatible with impending hard drive failure.

I'm having a new machine sent to the house this week before the 90 day warranty expires, but I STILL don't know if I'm dealing with a hardware or a software issue. Customer service is of no assistance in that regard. Until reading this HELP forum, I thought that the problem was with my hard drive. However, it appears clear that the 7.3.1 OS is indictable as well.

This is NO way to run a company.

You're not the only person who's had trouble with a certain version of the TiVo software, causing the type of things you're describing.

Look at it this way-
The new box may give you a little breathing room while they continue to try and fix the software glitch...which EVERYONE knows is there.
