View Full Version : Stuck at powering up HR10-250 (don't think it's the HD)

Tonight I moved my HR10-250 to see if I could reposition some cords to get my OTA antenna to get better reception. Well, I unplugged it and when I replugged it in it's stuck at Powering UP.... so I've searched the forum about powering up and hard drive failure.

However, I went to Compusa and bought a 300 gb hd and restored my old software on the drive from the tivo.bak file. I plug in the HD and it still gets stuck at the Powering up...

So my question is, what else could be the issue? i checked all the cables and the IDE cord and it all seems to be snug.

Help! I see that Des Moines is inline for the 4th qtr to get local HD, so maybe I go ahead and bear through the HR20? Thoughts?

Do the fan and hard drive spin up when you plug in the power? Do you have the jumper on the hard drive set correctly? An incorrect jumper setting could be causing your problem. A Tivo will power up and sit at the Powering up screen even without a hard drive installed so it's not seeing your drive for some reason.

It started with my two hard drives in it already, so they already were jumpered correctly. I did try with just the new hard drive and it still does it.

Yes both fans and hard drives spin and initialize but then you don't hear them accessing after about 10 seconds (but they are both still spinning when you power down).

I'm afraid that when I opened up the case that I must have bumped something to cause this...I don't recall bumping anything...

Ok - so i've switched out the y cable on the power, the hard drives, and the ide cords. I think I've isolated to the ide cord (deep sigh of relief). However, help me figure this out. If I plug in my original HD to the original ide cord it boots up. But, if I plug in the ide cord that had been working (or the brand new one in the HD that I bought last night) the original hd will not respond. The original ide cord as you know is only a single output. Could it be the circuit board is no longer able to push out enough power on the dual ide cords? Anyway, I'm on my way back to Compusa to bring back the HD and hope to find the ide cord like the one I got with the weaknees package since it's flexible and was working up until last night.

Anyway else have any thoughts on this?

Ended up calling D*tv tonight. It was the HD. Well, I talked to a level 2 supervisor and I explained to him my plight of not having a built in HD tuner in my HDTV and that D*tv announced that in the 4qtr that they would have Des Moines HD local stations. Anyway, he was going to send me an HR20, but after I negotiated and he checked somewhere and he was able to send me an HR10-250!

I've lost all my recordings, but he's sending it to me for free (with a 2 year committment and as a lease of course). But, I'm happy that I don't have to shell out a ton of $$$ for an ebay HR10-250 or having to settle for an HR20 for now.

BTW - I did get out of him that in the near future the HR20 will have OTA enabled AND he said he's also requested the dual buffer. If those both do come to fruition, maybe the DVR won't be so bad...

Or you could just replace the HD yourself, if you don't want to be locked into a 2 year commitment.

True...but as Lee Corso says "not so fast my friends." My HR10 was out of warranty. The cost of the new 300 GB HD was $80. The cost of getting a refurbished unit was $0.00 and a new 1 year warranty (along with a 2 yr committment). As long as NFL ST is with D*TV, I'm not going anywhere. So, the warranty (and new HD inside the HR10) was worth the cost of $0...
