View Full Version : Rules reminder - thread crapping frowned upon

There seems to be a rash (perhaps some would think it's diaper rash) of thread crapping this season with people feeling a need to enter threads and trash the show that is being discussed, trash the person being talked about, or otherwise leave fecal matter behind for others to come along and find.
I would like to think we don't really need reminders like this, but apparently many folks miss forum rules along the way.
I'm not an admin and I don't claim to be perfect, as I've done the thread crapping (or at least show crapping) once or twice along the way, but I've tried to remember the "If you can't say something nice" rules and just leave threads alone if I can't add something constructive to the conversation. Apparently several others lately haven't been interested in following that common sense approach, as I've noticed many individual reminders going out in the various threads, and as I've seen some pretty classless comments with people bitching about shows that others are interested in and are perhaps a bit sensitive about given the relative quickness with which the networks have swung the cancellation axes.
Can we all take a minute please to remind ourselves that we don't need to speak up about every show or topic we dislike? If you don't care about a show skip the thread. Don't care about the topic being discussed, skip on past. If you wish the show was better and can constructively say so, then great, but don't waste the time and effort to say it stinks without offering something more substantive.
Thanks for reading these thoughts, and feel free to crap here as much as you need if it'll get it all out of your system and keep it out of the other threads :p

Aww, now you have me thinking of Triumph and his interview (if you could call it that) of Bon Jovi some years back... That was some funny TV.
Well, that, and Triumph's appearance on Hollywood Squares (or at least the clips I saw online).

And I'd like to point out that it's NOT "thread crapping" to participate in a thread about an episode of a show just because you happen to have negative opinions about the episode or direction a show is being taken.
Show threads are not just for fanboys and fangirls of a show; and even fanboys and fangirls may find aspects to criticize from time to time.

Yes--after all, if you could only say something positive, Doug's post-count would be around 132... :D

My favorite are the ones who complain EVERY SINGLE FREAKING WEEK about a particular show. Invasion had a few of those.
"Oh this show really stinks. It's awful. Blah blah blah."
And then the same thing in the thread on next week's episode. And so on. Geez, delete the season pass already.

And can we get a rule stating that all LOST references remain in the LOST threads. I feel like screaming at my computer ever time I read somoene say, "This show is too much like LOST"
So far this season I have yet to see a show where a group of people crash on a deserted island but I have heard just about ever other show being referred to as a Lost type show. I just don't get it!

This thread has had a serious downturn in quality this season.
I'd say it's jumped the shark and it's only a matter of time before it's cancelled. I'm sure the wanking fanboyz will be inconsolable.

I have no problem with people that want to talk about how bad an episode is or if their favorite show has taken a nosedive. People that go into the same show every week and say "This show is garbage, why do people still watch it?" should be drawn and quartered.

That is my biggest issue. It does seem more prevelant this year. I don't care if someone does not like a show, but after a few weeks of putrid bile about a show, it is time to move on. If you are still watching a show after bagging on it for 4 weeks, then there is something wrong with you, and if you are not watching it you don't really need to put your 2 cents in to the discussion.
I would suspect I don't like or enjoy most shows that are talked about here, yet somehow I manage to not go into all those threads and just tell people how much they suck or how bad the show is. If I watched a show and found it not to my liking, I might share that opinion and move on. If you want to do nothing other than just bash a show, then start a thread for that specific purpose. That way people not interested in dealing with it, don't have to "argue" with you.
This is not a tv debate forum, it is a discussion forum.

Can I still go into the 24 threads and discuss all the unrealistic plot holes? That's the best part of watching 24.

If you didn't talk about those, what else would there to be talk about (re: 24)?
Just use your magic 24 time/space bending system to run across town at unrealistic speed and you'll have plenty of time to get back home and put up some new comments about the latest episode. :o

That statement reminds me of the FUNNIEST storylines on "The King of Queens": when Spence's TiVo thought he was gay.

I feel the same way about Prison Break. I don't think it's possible to discuss that show without talking about how ridiculous it is.
But I still watch it every week and enjoy it, even with the absurd plot holes. I'd probably watch Wentworth Miller reading the phone book and enjoy that too.

My Myspace page thinks I'm gay. Seriously. When I log in I get ads for gay internet dating sites. Not only that, its specifically for gay GUYS...and I'm a girl  I don't get it...

My favorite threadcrap for this season:
"I really hated what they did last season, I'm never watching this show again!"
Sorta gives you new respect for the people who go into a thread and complain that the current episode sucked, even if they are doing it week after week.
At least they did watch the current episode!

Thanks, I think I will.
Oh, my god, I can't believe how bad 30 Rock is.
Take a supremely unfunny SNL skit with Alec Baldwin as the guest player and make it even longer, interleave it with an extremely unfunny Tracy Morgan skit similarly extended, and that pretty much sums up my experience of watching the pilot of 30 Rock.
(It reminds me of the joke they made in the first episode of Studio 60 about making their (tremendously unfunny) cartoon Peripheral Vision Man longer to fill time -- how Ricky and Ron are going to keep writing it until it's funny, and yeah, making it longer, that was the critical element that was missing.)
People can like what they like, it's okay with me, really it is. If people disagree with me, it's okay.
But to read the posts where people say they hate Studio 60 and think 30 Rock is hilarious just make me want to hold my head and moan.
Thanks, I feel better now. ;)
