I have a Series 2 on which I have the $12.95/mo month-to-month service agreement. I'm looking to add a second box - probably a Series 2 DT. What will my service rate be on the second box? Will I get the $6.95/mo for a second box, or do I have to by an annual agreement? If I buy annual, what happens to the rate on the first box?

buy the DT from a retailer, get the 150 $ rebate and then activate at the 6.95 a month rate. Look around for deals - CC I think has a 40$ off instant savings for example.

or buy from TiVo.com as a bundle and pay that bundle price for the length of the agreement, then call TiVo when it ends, agree to another year and from that point pay 6.95 a month
edit to add - how in the wrold I missed that the first TiVo would go to 6.95 if buying the bundle - I just don't know  Good thing this is a fourm with lots of members :)

FYI - If you buy a DT directly from Tivo, although you will pay the bundled rate, your first Tivo should change to $6.95.

Also, if you buy a unit from Retail, you will be subject to a 1 year commitment (even if is just at $6.95).

No matter where, or how, you buy the DT unit you will get the $6.95 rate on one of the TiVos. If you buy some sort of bundle or prepaid deal then your current unit will drop to $6.95. And if you buy the DT retail then it will only be $6.95. Either way you get the discount.

When going thru TiVo.com. your current box should automatically switch to the $6.95 rate.

If you were to have the first box in a one yr bundled contact. You would not see your $19.95 drop to the lower fees of $12.95, or in your case $6.95 (Multi Service Discount) until your contract was up and you changed to a service only contract.

Yes. And I can assure you this happened immediately, with no fuss, when I did just what you are thinking of doing.

I bought this week a Tivo from Best Buy to use as second activation at $6.95/mo. counting on $150 rebate. However, did not activate yet as both Tivo & Best Buy told me rebate is for new account & not new activation on existing account. I called rebate center & they said it is eligible. Does anyone have 1st hand experience on whether it is eligible for rebate as getting different answers and wording on rebate form is not clear.
Thanks.

I had 2 Tivo's (one was $12.95 and the 2nd was $6.95). I purchased the DT thru Tivo in March (prepaid for 1 year). The original $12.95 dropped to $6.95, the 2nd stayed at $6.95 and the DT prepay equated to $12.95 per month. It was all done automatically by Tivo. Really painless. When I got it (the DT) I plugged it into my wired network (with the other 2 Tivos and 2 computers) and Bang, it logged into the mothership and off it went. Just plain great!!

I have my 1st machine as lifetime. Buying 2nd DT from Tivo with 1 yr included is about $224 (or $140 for box and $84/yr for service), whereas I bought for 12% off at best buy and closer to $50 for Box if rebates are eligible. would rather stick with store bought if rebates are eligible.

unless it has changed, you should get a rebate.

Hello

In reading most of the above it seems like everyone believes you will get a discount for 2 Tivo units.

I am here to tell you this is not true.

Even though the sales person at Tivo said I would get a discount if I signed up for a second unit. I never got it. Upon questioning it I was eventually transferred to what Tivo is calling a manager. Only to here there is nothing I can do....

I am guessing Tivo does not have real managers or does not like honoring their word.

The difference between making me a loyal Tivo Fan that promotes there product any time someone asks and now one who considers the company just like most of the internet type company’s... no customer service and trying to take your money at every turn was 6 dollars a month.

I am guessing Tivo spends multi millions a year on advertising. I have sold more Tivo units to friends than all the wasted ad dollars they have spent on them.

Anyway,,, no longer suggesting Tivo to anyone.

If both Tivos you have are in a package then no, you will not get MSD. Also both Tivos have to be on the same account calling in from the same household in order to get MSD.

No matter where, or how, you buy the DT unit you will get the $6.95 rate on one of the TiVos. True. Almost. :)

If your first TiVo is a Lifetime sub unit and you buy the second unit in a bundle you pay the full bundle rate for the second TiVo, but only 6.95 if you buy the second unit standalone. Definite disincentive for a lifer to buy a second box from TiVo (as opposed to some other retail channel).

my MSD discounts all happened automatically and with no problem. Of ocurse I had no bundle deals going on and those bundles can confuse some people.

You could send the one package deal back(30days?). Then buy at retail and get your
second box at the discount.

If the CSR did indeed say you would with 2 packages purchased, he was wrong. However, I would of confirmed what he thought would be the total cost, to be billed on my card.

I have a 40 hr Tivo box from a couple years ago and pay $12.95/mo. I want to add the new dual tuner and I was told by Best Buy and Tivo that I DO NOT qualify for the current $150 rebate. I want to just buy the stupid thing but don't want to be screwed if I don't get the $150 rebate . . .

Who's been denied and did you return it to Best Buy?

Who's gotten the $150 just fine?

Thanks for the info!

By Tivo as well? As long as the Tivo has not been activated with service before then you should be eligble for the rebate. I know CompUSA was dumb and told me because I am a Tivo customer already I could not get the reabte, but it is new activation on the box, not new activation of the owner.

So annoying!!!!! I just got off the phone with Tivo and she said new activation by customer.

I might just buy it anyway. Heck the rebate isn't clear and neither is the website. I'll just fight like hell if they deny me.

Stupid Tivo. But we love it!

That logic is fully flawed as the rebates allow for two per person/household. What would be the purpose of putting in those terms if it is by customer? I can not vouch for myself but I am 100% sure that many others on this board has submitted multiple rebates and have not been denied them because they are not a "new" customer.

Tivo makes money from subscriptions not the boxes. They figure that after one year you will be hooked (terms of the rebate) and you will be with them for years to come. It is true too. My parents have had tivo for only about 6 months (we have a lifetime ST S2 in the living room) and they bought a ST and paying $6.95/month for the bedroom Tivo.

That is EXACTLY what I want to do. I'm gonna do it and come back here and post the final verdict. That is so stupid of Tivo. It's like cell phones, offer all the cool new stuff to the 'new' customers but don't take care of the current customers.

I think I'm save b/c this will only be my 2nd Tivo. I can't wait until the new HD Tivo comes down in price. It will be soo cool.

Thanks for the comments!
