Just got off the phone with a Directv tech (not advanced I would think) and though she was nice she did not have a clue about the problems so many have had since the update.
Unless those of us here on this site post to the Directv forum http://forums.directv.com:80/pe/action/forums/listtopics?msgBoardID=10156613 about these issues, Directv is not going to be as aware of how widespread it is. The tech said they do not monitor any forums except for the one linked here and if there was a problem they would have memos to that effect. The fact that they have not received a lot of calls would say to her that it is not a widespread issue. Maybe we should, as I suggested in my post on the Directv forum, individually enter new posts rather than just responding...so it registers with them.
I have had my unit for 2 years and never had any issues at all until the update. Now I have HD digital station audio dropouts and concurrent video freeze and/or pixelation. These happen about every 30 secs to a minute apart and last for 10 secs or so. Both satellite and OTA stations, but not on standard def.
I've also lost the ability to record OTA, set up a season pass and it indicates no programs are scheduled to air on that time and station....it just shows available programs on the satellite stations for that show, time and date.
My signal strengths are strong across the board and I've reset the hard drive, etc. and have also deleted all season passes and scanned for stations twice.
The biggest issue is not being able to watch TV on my 92" screen with my Panasonic projector. The game this past Sunday was so bad with dropouts we were relegated to the living room on a 34" TV.
Call me spoiled, but I've invested a lot of $ in HD equipment, $999 for the HR10-250 alone.
She told me to disconnect the HDMI and reconnect again and then do a complete reset of the entire system (which removes everything including recorded programs). I really don't want to have to do that and if this is not resolved soon will probably jump ship to digital Comcast Cable.

Are you for real? I felt your pain until you mentioned your 92" screen, and the price you paid for the HR10-250. Hope you're joking, 'cause I paid only $19.99 for my HR10-250, and that included installation of the oval dish, triple lnb and 6 months of free HD service.
You did almost all the right things to try and correct your dropout problems. You need to replace your 92" screen so it's compatible with 6.3a. (Yes, it may have worked for 3.1 and 6.3, but 6.3a is a whole different matter! See, it worked on the tiny 34" TV didn't it!) :D

$999 was indeed the original price of the HR10-250.

Oh boy. Another dick measuring contest. Just say you invested a lot of cash in HD and be done with it. BTW, that would apply to pretty much everyone who has a HR10.

LOL....what a kick!
Never thought I'd be slammed for this. I was an early adopter of the HR10-250, so that explains the price. And the screen and projector are the solution for using a room for both my office and family HD room. The projector was only $2100 and presents a very nice HD picture for the price.
Not going to apologize for what has been a great HD viewing experience for us....up until 6.3a that is.....sigh.

Most of us have been there too, just don't want to admit to paying full list to have something first. That projector sure can't be a 1080I for that price! If so what is it and where can I buy one?

Hi all. I just joined and have never seen such a fascination with penises in a forum. User Tyroneshoes frequently refers to a penis in his posts as well. What the hell did I just join? :D

Got mine at Projector People. It is the Panasonic PT-AE700U. It is about 2 years old now and there is a newer model PT-AE900U that is supposed to be even better. This model has been out about a year now.
It does 720p and 1080i....always run mine at 1080i. Of course, it is an HD projector. What sold me on it was reading in a forum about a guy who has a $35k projector and bought one of these as a backup. His wife said to him "Why do we have the $35k projector when the new one is just as good for $2000?" I've been very happy with it. HD is fantastic and we don't go to movies anymore, why? WHEN WE CAN WATCH OUR 92" SCREEN AT HOME. First time my wife saw it she said, "Size does matter!".

I've talked with them several times. Never a problem until 6.3 was installed. Audio dropouts, constant reboots, programs failing to record. They sent me a replacement unit that has 3.15 installed. Works perfectly, no dropouts, reboots or recording failures. I have it disconnected from the phone line to, hopefully, avoid a forced upgrade to 6.3. Both my 250s have 3.15 and I want to keep them that way until the bugs are corrected.

The better question is why did you just join a penis-centric forum? Is there something you'd like to share with the class?

It does 720p and 1080i....always run mine at 1080i. It is a native 720p projector. It will take a 1080i signal and convert it. If you are watching channels like ESPN, ABC or Fox, it is best to set your HD receiver to output 720p. That way there is no conversion taking place.
I'm running the 900u on a 103" screen (yes, I had to get my size in the discussion). The new 1000 model has a few reviews over at AVS.

Unless, of course, he is getting his ESPN from D* through an HD10 (which he is). In that case, it is 1080i.
