I have a sony five disc dvd dolby digital surround sound system. I would like to control this unit with my tivo remote. I have tried all of the codes listed for sony receivers to no avail. Any suggestions?

A universal remote that can control both your TiVo and your sound system?

I'm not really interested in purchasing another remote, and was hoping to find another source of codes for using the tivo remote. Thanks for the suggestion though.

My understanding is that the codes to use the TiVo remote with a receiver are simply for the Volume controls/mute. The TiVo remote will do nothing else on your receiver but adjust the volume/mute. It will not control inputs or anything else.
IMHO - One would be wasting time with ahuge DVD/Audio system like what you seem to have and not be able to control more than the volume. ;) So, this seems to beg the case for a good universal remote to control everything.
Also, if it is only the volume/mute you are looking to control - have you tried a code search?

I found that even with the proper codes the MUTE button was not working properly with my reciever. I found a tip to program just Mute. That worked, but still could not change the DSP program when switching from broadcast TV to a movie etc.
I ultimately ended up getting a Harmony 890 remote and I gotta say... its VERY nice. Took a bit to get the thing programming on my Mac. But once past the initial hurdle it is VERY easy to program and it works great!

Sounds like your sony is dream system, model start with DAV? There are 3 codesets used by Sony AUD receivers and systems, AV1, AV2, and Dream systems. The only codes in the tivo remote are for sony's using the old AV1 codeset. All receivers sold in the last 4 years come set to AV2, higher end receivers can be changed to AV1, but not dream systems. So if you have actually a dream system you're out of luck. If you have bundle, you might be able to switch receiver part of the bundle to AV1 codeset. But for sure you will lose the use of the oem remote. Because it won't be able to switch codesets.

You really should take a look at the harmony remotes though if you have more than 2 components in your setup (Tivo, TV, receivor, Xbox etc). Its nice to push a single button and have them all come on at once, not too mention work perfectly without having to change sources on the remote everytime you want to make a change on the receivor while watching tv or vice versa.
Very high speed and worth the few bucks to pick one up.

Or, on the subject of Universal Remotes:
Sony has an excellent line of programmable learning remotes. USB capable, too. I have an AV-3100 and love it. Controls everything, and has built-in TiVo codes that work great. (I do not use it to run the TiVo, but I do use it for everything else in my home theater)

The av3100 only preset codes for receivers set to av1 codeset.

Well, moot point here then, but I was not suggesting that remote in particular anyway.
There is a "whole line" of remotes. The newest model RM-AX4000 onlr running about $100 online and ebay brand new.

That model ain't worth a damn. Received one free for testing it, then give it away. When it comes to sony, I like the $25 model, the Rm-vl600. First sony remote to actually have a code geared towards the Sony T60 Dtivo, it has codes for all 3 remote addresses too. Its one of the only handful preprogrammed universal remotes that have a preset code for the new line Directv receivers.
