Well this forum has been very helpfull today! So ive got last few questions!

1. Can i watch my recorded shows while its recording another show?

2. Does it tell me that for example if I have a show that will record on Monday at 9pm and I completely forget about it and I try to add another show to record on that day and time, will it tell me that theres already a show going to be recorded at that time? Or is there no warning and it will just erase the first choice and put on the second one?

3. About the season passes. Like for example if I choose to record Lost season 3, and theres also season 2 airing, will it record both of those or does it seperate them by seasons? Like if they start to rerun lost season 1 and I choose to record the season , will it just record season 1 episodes or will it record season 1 and other seasons which are airing or rerunning?

4. Ive read somewhere on the forum that I can keep programming recorded from payperview or hbo/showtime etc. for 24 hours? Is that true? Does it automatically deleted after 24 hours or does it become unplayable?

5. If i ever decide to upgrade my dvr while im still on my 1 year commitment, and for example i buy newer model if it comes out for 300$, will i be able to disable my old model and use the new one i got with that 1 year contract? Or is that contract only for the dvr i got with my contract and i wont be able to replace it until my contract ends?

Well thats all I have to ask, thank you to whoever answers my questions! :)

There have been some problems with "flags" that can be attached to the TV signal..."flags" that newer TiVos can recognize and cooperate with.

These can prevent recording, prevent storing the show on the TiVo for more than a few hours or days, prevent it being transferred by the TiVo to a VCR or DVD recorder...

By rights these flags should only be used in connection with "special' channels or presentations, like maybe movies on HBO, but sometimes they've been attached to other programming....like regular TV....and that's illegal.

I'm not sure exactly what type of shows it IS legal to attach these "flags" to, but it may come up so it's something to be aware of.

Local channels is one that I know specifically can't have the flag - and that's what usually gets a flag when there's a screw-up somewhere (e.g., at the local station).

Specific things on HBO or Showtime like Boxing could get the flag.
At least the flag "record/watch once, no dubbing" or whatever it is specifically called.

I would think that live sporting events on Broadcast TV could also get the flag at some point, NFL for example would be one of the first to make the jump, IMHO.

I remember reading that some official told "whoever" (TV and movie industry, electronics manufactuerers) that there was to be no messing with what the American consumer was familiar with as new digital TV equpiment was being created. 'If they can record TV now, they'd better be able to do it after the digital changeover. No messing with that.'

Seems to me that since OTA channels can't be flagged (or, they're not SUPPOSED to be flagged), that if the NFL puts its games on OTA television, they've got to accept that people will be able to record it.

Now, I suppose some nasty little varmint will come up with some loophole, such as "Yes, you can record it, but you can't store it on disc or tape, or keep it on your hard drive for very long."

can't do that loophole for OTA - that is an FCC regulation and exactly there so as to not change what is expected can be done today.

now the NFL is creating an NFL network - it is most likely benign but they could take it premium and make people pay per view to watch games on TV. The viability of such a business model I would not know about.

in fact I think the NFL is a poor example since after the game is done, the recording looses much of its value and for the NFL it is really more about Brand/trademark protection and ticket sales protection for the owners. Recording a game in the home fotr later viewing is very different from streaming that recording to a blackout location or showing it in a public place such as a sports bar.

the HBOs of the broadcast world have a lot more to loose as their original premium content can be copied and handed to someone else to avoid a subscription and/or rent the DVDs of previous seasons of the premium content.

2: It will tell you if an already scheduled recording will take place. It will then present you with the options to keep or cancel that recording in favor of the new one.

3: If they are on the same channel, you can select "First Run Only".

Like if they start to rerun lost season 1 and I choose to record the season , will it just record season 1 episodes or will it record season 1 and other seasons which are airing or rerunning?Season Passes, despite the name, don't actually pay attention to the different season of a show.

A Season Pass is just a request for the TiVo to record all episodes matching certain criteria on a specific channel. (Season Passes a fixed to a single channel, and won't record episodes that appear on any other channel. You can use a Wishlist set to auto-record to record episodes for all channels)

On of the options for Season Passes is:
First Run Only | First Run and Repeats | All (Including Duplicates)
* First Run Only will record new episodes. (Specifically episodes that were first shown no more than 28 days before; this allows the TiVo to grab a repeat from later in the week if there was a conflict with the first showing). It will also record episodes with bad guide data (because it don't know if they are new or not)

* First Run and Repeats will record new episodes and reruns. However it won't record the same episode twice in 28 days. So it absolutely won't record a given repeat more that about once a month.

* All (with Duplicates) is just that. It will record every single episode (unless a conflict prevents it). So if you set that for Battlestar Galactica, every Friday night it would record the new episode at 9, and then record it again when it repeated at 11.

Unfortunately there isn't any way to tell the TiVo to record "Season 2 of Lost". You can tell it to record only new episodes of Lost, or new and rerun episodes, but not "Season 2"
