I have a series 1 tivo (sony) that is unable to make the daily call. i have voice over ip phone connection that has worked flawlessly up until about a month ago. the unit has made two successful calls in that time but now will not connect at all. i read something about how a digital pbx phone connection can damage the tivo modem but do not understand if or why it's happening now after working for the six months i've had the voice over ip connection. any thoughts?

Series 1 is getting aged, your modem might be failing.

VOIP is, at best, problematical for modem calls.

The fact that you had success in the past is more a function of good luck than anything else.

There are many, many factors beyond your control or knowledge that could have changed to cause the calls to fail. Changes at your IP or at the VOIP's IP or at the VOIP itself or at any interconnection point could cause modem calls to fail without any noticeable effect on voice.

Since you have a series 1 TiVo you can get a Turbonet card from 9th Tee and get updates through the Internet or you can use PPP over serial through a window's computer.

You did not say which VOIP you are using but many providers have settings they can change to improve data calls.

Edit: BTW VOIP is not digital PBX and will not damage your TiVo.
