A ringing sound (like Christmas bells shaking every time there is audio – the ringing is not constant, only when audio is coming through) is coming out of my right (red) audio channel of my Tivo. At first, I thought it was my TV or a bad cable. However, I watched something in my computer via TTG last weekend and the problem was on that file as well. Below are my details and attempts to isolate the problem:

S2 240 140hr unmodified
Charter cable into TV (three splits via a cable company splitter - two for video, one for cable modem)
S-video and red/white RCA plugs out to TV

1. I've swapped the cable lines going to the Tivo and that doesn’t help the problem.
2. I’ve used the two cable lines into the VCR and out to the Tivo with the same out plugs and I don’t get the ringing on the TV via the VCR.
3. If I switch the Tivo to “mono” or only run the audio through the left (white) RCA cable, the problem does not occur (no ringing).
2. Problem does occur on Tivo through "live" TVas well as through recordings.
3. Probem was intermittent at first but now seems to be a problem all of the time and on all channels.
4. Problem occurs via TTG. I can transfer a program to my laptop via wireless or ethernet cable and the problem is on the file when played back on the laptop. I can turn off the right channel of the audio and then with only the left channel playing, I get no ringing sound.

My only guess now is that I have an internal Tivo problem. With S2s so cheap now, I may have to dump this one and get a new unit. However, I just transferred my lifetime off this unit and onto my S3 so this unit now has one year of free service. And, as this is my first Tivo, I’m kind of attached to it. Silly, I know.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
