View Full Version : Just noticed: Free Showtime this weekend!

That means (of course) that the HD Showtime channel 71 is free (and unblocked) as well from Oct 6-9.

Not too much on, but it does give me the opportunity to see what all the noise about "Weeds" is about.

I happened to see that we were getting this in the "Showcases" area, and just thought I'd alert the forum too.

Yeah, too bad they show nothing worth watching during their free wekends. I thought the point of having a free weekend was to intice people to subscribe. UHD has better movies this weekend than showtime.

They're hoping to get people hooked on Dexter for one.
They're showing the premiere a couple times today, then ep #2 tomorrow.

Weeds is pretty good, well it was last season and the beginning of this season, gone a little downhill the last couple of episodes.

Yeah, I'm just being the "grumpy old man." I just remember growing up and HBO and SHowtime were pretty much movie channels only.

Beyond the Sea, the Bobby Darin story, wasn't bad. Sahara, on the other hand, was about as dumb as they come.

Ill +1 this one.
When I heard about the preview, I added the channels and searched to see what was going to be on. Hate to say it, but nothing that I was interested in or that I have not seen already. Im also not into the different series that they offer so that is not a value add as well.

Hate to say it, but I thought the same thing for the Starz freeview a few weeks back as well.

Im sure that there are those out there who got a lot out of it and that is great. They benefited from the freeview then...

Sahara, on the other hand, was about as dumb as they come.
Great... that was one of the movies I recorded.

All the movie channels are worthless IMO. Anything I am remotely interested in, I've already seen on DVD months ago.

I called to cancel my HD pkg a while back and they said hey we'll give you the HD pkg and all movies for free for four months.... OK, why not. I still don't watch any of it.

The only thing that I have watched was Dexter, about a forensics expert who is secretly a serial killer. Pretty good show.

I took three free months of Showtime when I got my 10-250, and it SUCKS!!! I can't believe how LITTLE is on all of those channels.
When I called to cancel at the end of my 3 free I mentioned to the CSR how bad it was and he gave me 3 free months of Starz to try out instead. I have watched and recorded more off of Starz in the first week and a half than I even watched on Showtime et. all in 3 months.

If only Starz was in HD I'd be pyched. :p

Don't worry - word is that it will be in HD sooner than later - in MPEG-4. HR20 required. But, you're sure right - Starz has a great movie selection and lots of channels.
