Hi,

I'm thinking about moving to an AV surround receiver. If I connect my Tivo and my DVD directly to the AV Receiver, can I use the Tivo's remote to switch inputs?

I know that the Tivo remote can handle volume up/down on an external AV receiver. But I wasn't sure about whether the Input button could be programmed to cycle through the inputs on the AV receiver rather than the display.

If not, what are you folks doing? One possibility would be to continue connecting my tivo and dvd directly to the display and then using the display's digital audio OUT to connect to the AV receiver. Are there pros/cons to doing this vs. using the AV receiver as your input switch?

(I suppose I could also buy a new remote control like a Harmony, but I'll leave that as a last resort. My family all know how to operate the Tivo peanut, so I'd hate to have to change unless necessary!).

thanks for your help!

I dont' think that the standard Tivo remote can switch AV Receiver inputs. But, depending on your AV Receiver, its remote might be able to control your Tivo. Or do what many of us do and use a nice programmable remote to integrate everything together.

If I do have to go with a new remote, is there a particular one you'd recommend? I'd want one that is as simple as possible. Since my other TV's all use the Tivo peanut remote, ideally a programmable remote would have a button layout that is similar. Some of the Harmony models seem to resemble a Tivo peanut remote.

Thanks!

I Would Not Have It Any Other Way, 5.1 surround Is IMHO The Way To Go,Depending On The Reciever You Choose(Lots Of Choices) The Hookup Is Wall To Tivo In My Case HR10 - 250,Then To Reciever & Then To TV Display.
