If my cable company adds more channels line Universal HD (rumored) will it rely on the Tribune guide to add these channels or is there some other way?
The reason I ask is I've noticed on Zap2it.com that they are sometimes a bit slow updateing their guide, which is as I understand it directly from Tribune.

What do you mean "rely on the guide to add these channels"?
The guide provides program information for the channels---it had nothing to do with whether or not channels get added.

OK, maybe I didn't make my question clear.
Let's say TW has some new channels they make available for subscribers. How does TiVo get informed? With the SA 8300 we would see it on the guide. Does the same thing happen with the S3? I'm seeing one right now, WNEO which wasn't available last week. There is no picture but there is guide info.

I'll say this....don't believe what TiVo CS tells you as far as how soon Tribune Media Services will make changes. I've been waiting now 2-1/2 weeks to have the guide data corrected on one of my HD channels. The CS rep told me it would be fixed within the week...:(
TiVoJerry later informed me that, since this is new TiVo territory, it's gonna take some time.

I had a new HD channel added a couple weeks ago and it was added to the TiVo lineup in just a couple days. Also I had the wrong data for a channel. I reported it via the lineup error page on their website and it was fixed in less then a week.

DanDan, I also reported my lineup issue via that page, and I'm still waiting....18 days and counting....

Two things have to happen.
1. Cable company has to add the channel mapping for the new channel to the cablecards.
2. Tribune has to supply the data for that channel to TiVo.
You can probably check out #1 by going to Test Channels.

The guide lists "SIGN OFF" (no programming info other than that) for our ABC HD channel all weekend long and from 10:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. each weekday. It also lists our PBS HD as "SIGN OFF" each day until 11 a.m. (They sign on at 8 a.m.)

When they andd that channel, they will assign it a channel number, and the Cablecard will pick that up, and you can manually tune that channel.
For TiVo to have guide data, it will have to be added to the Tribune lineup.
IME, it takes about week for the channel to be added to the TiVo guide after the provider adds it.

If you know it's in the system but the guide data doesn't have it, can you just tune manually to that station?

Same here, HD guide error reported via the TiVo website. Still waiting.

Quick update: called TiVo CS, gave them my case #, and they said they would escalate it. CS rep was very helpful (within the limits of what he can do). He suggested I check later today to make sure it HAS been escalated, and advised me that if the person I get on the phone couldn't sufficiently answer my questions, I should ask for a supervisor. Rarely does ANYONE in customer support suggest to you that you should ask for a supervisor. That was refreshing.

So how come I get no guide data from TiVo for digital channels I select manually because I have no CableCard?
If TiVo has the guide data, why don't they send it to be available for channels I check off?

What about if you go to Zap2It.com and enter your Zip code, etc.
Do you see the channels (and guide data) show up?

Yes, I see everything as it should be, including HD channels in the 700's.

If you have no CableCards, you are receiving the raw QAM channels, not the cablesystems "mapped" channels. The QAM channels aren't really published. What is published is the mapped cable channel numbers. TiVo, and its guide supplier have no way of knowing whats on any particular QAM channel. Its up to your cable company to load your cablecard with the mapping information, i.e., what QAM channel is mapped to what cable channel. You can, on your own figure out what is on each QAM channel and dial it up yourself, but the TiVo (without CC) has no clue as to what content is on it. What some here have asked for is the ability to give the TiVo that clue, Manual Channel Mapping.
