Disclaimer: I did do a search and the closest I found to my question had to do with converting the signal into a different format
If I record a show on my standard HR10-250 via OTA HD channel, but the show being recorded is not in HD, does it still take up as much space as a real HD show?
I got a Warning today that I didn't have enough space on my recorder to switch a show to "Save until I delete" which surprised me, but prompted this question.
Thanks!

This is only a guess, but I'm gonna say it does take up just as much space. My thought is that it's still an HD signal/broadcast even though the progam is not formatted for HD. Again, just a guess.

Your guess is absolutely correct. It takes up the same amount of space, because even though the underlying video is not HD, it is being upconverted to either 720p or 1080i, and it sent at a bit rate that is essentially the same as a true HD program.

tyke it's still well worth it though. I'm sure you've seen the great pic compared to directvs crappy SD locals . Just gotta make more hours in the day to watch or buy a bigger hard drive. My wife likes the OTA so much that she does all her daytime SD stuff in it.

Thanks for your answers! I was afraid of that. It's hard converting from a SA Series 2 with ~ 280 hrs where we could let the shows accumulate and then watch them when we wanted to.
You are right newsposter! The picture quality is far superior.
Hmm... with the holidays approaching, it looks like I need to knock a few more things off the honey-do list so I can get the boss' permission for a 2nd drive :D .
