Wednesday morning I spent about 45 minutes calibrating my 50 Sony WEGA LCD, using the Avia DVD. I was connecting it to the HR10 using the component jacks. I was very pleased with the results.
This morning, I installed and HDMI cable and now the colors look too red. Am I seeing things or can the HDMI output affect the color? Is it a bad cable?
I didn't have time to switch back to component before I left home.

Not familiar with your particular set, but you probably need to calibrate each input separately.

I have a Sony Grand WEGA LCD RP and you do need to calibrate each input separately. A good program for that is on Tuesday mornings on HDNet.
Ah, here it is (from www.hd.net):
Tue., Oct. 10th 6:50 AM ET HDNet Test Patterns
Record this show and save it as Keep Until I Delete (it's only 10 minutes long).
(It's not as easy as Video Essentials or probably Avia, but now that you know what to do you can probably get by.)

Hi Dave. I just did the same thing with my HR10-250 when setting up a new TV. You blew out your HDMI card. You can stay in high def amd do without the HDMI cable by just running the three component cables and an audio connection. For a quick fix you can get the colors back to normal by stepping down the output signal to 480dpi in the DTV set-up menu. They will replace your box with an HR20 one for $19.99. Then buy the new dish on e-bay for $50 and you're golden without having to sign a two year contract.

Funny post.
The correct answer is that he needs to calibrate the HDMI input on his Sony set.

I also have a Sony Grand WEGA LCD RP and you ABSOLUTELY DO need to calibrate each input separately. Mine is a 2004 KDS-60XS955. The A20s and the SXRD models also require this (I had the pleasure of setting up those for my mother and sister), as do likely all Sonys since at least 2004.
You can prove this by comparing the settings on your DVD input to those on your HDMI input. Dollars to donuts they are not the same. Simply write down your settings on the calibrated DVD input, and transfer them to the HDMI input.

Thanks everyone for the info. I think I'll start with TyroneShoes' idea (transfer the settings) and go from there.

Okay. HD DTV output on HDMI and component is very different from what is output by my DVD player.
I'd like to take a shot with the HDNet test patttern but can't find a schedule for it on their website. Anyone know when it is scheduled to be shown again? Searching their website did no good.
BTW, I have a Sony Wega KDF-50E2000 LCD RPTV, HR10-250, and a Sony DVP-NS75H upconverting DVD deck, if that helps.
