I just encountered an interesting situation.... I was watching a recorded Digital Cable SD program. The program was one which was recorded by pressing record while the show was underway. Instead of recording that program only, The Tivo aparrently took the entire buffer and saved it since another program was 'in front' of it even though the starting point was in the right place. When the show ended, I was presented with the delete or dont delete screen.... However.. the Tivo wouldnt take any of my input. It just gave me the 'bong' sound. The cursor wouldnt go up or down. Pressing LiveTV gave bong. pressing the Tivo button bong... pressing enter bong... I started typing this and the screen timed out and went back to the "Program" screen. I selected play... the show restarted at the beginning (which was 44 minutes into the actual recording per the timeline) and played fine. I advanced the show to almost the end to see if it would do it again.... but it didnt.

Strange....

Were you able to go backwards, to before the "beginning"? Would show if it really stored that much video to disk, or if it's just the timeline that's fubar.

Chris.

Yup... I could navigate backwards into the show 'before'. Another interesting thing was that it was 44 mins..... I thought the buffer was only 30.....

Haven't TiVos always behaved like this? The recording the previous program part, not the not taking remote input part.

My HR10-250 does this, I'm pretty sure my HDVR2 does this (both DirecTiVos). If you're not used to this behaviour, maybe the S3 is just showing its roots in DTiVos. Its only slightly annoying, and I thought it just copied the entire live buffer as the beginning of the recording.

I don't think I've seen this on my S2's, and I've only recorded live tv once on the S3 but have since deleted it. But, I can see how it would be a cheap optimisation: Essentially all it's doing is reallocating the current buffer as recorded content and storing a pointer to the "start". Cheap, but potentially wasteful.

Yeah, it's happened to me a few times when recording from the live buffer. If there's space, it can actually record longer than 30 minutes. And sometimes it does, even if I only want to record a 30 minute show.

Weird, but been there forever.
