I have the HR10-250 that I bought before the lease program began and I was wondering if it dies and Direct TV sends me a replacement using the Protection Plan will I own that one or will it be considered a lease?

Word of warning. If the Protection Plan replaces a failed receiver, DTV will try to restart a programming committment. I'm currently in this battle and am losing so far.

As instructed, I waited 14 days and phoned the Protection Plan and asked they confirm from the Cancellation Department that the programming committment had been removed from my account.

Nope. Had not been escalated as promised two weeks ago and the committment remains on the account.

Received another promise of an escalation.

this is exactly what happened to us too. i called them just after a swap was done when i saw the note thread about directv changing committment dates for the simplest reasons for so many people. we had a year left and now suddenly we had 2 years left! finally they did confirm that WITH the protection plan, a defective receiver that needs replacing does NOT become leased if it has replaced an owned one and there is NOT a new committment date. i called 1-800-824-9081 and just asked for a supervisor.
