So my dad bought a new Series 1 and right out of the box it wont call in for the first time.. We figured it was a bad modem, so we had it dial a cell number and it called it just fine!! I also have a series 1, different models though...So I opened both Tivos up and put his hard drives in MY unit.....it didnt work...OK, so I put my hard drive in his unit and it connected just fine!!! Which leaves me to believe half of the problems on here about modems are not the modems at all, its the hard drives!!! We tried every way imaginable to make his dial, such as commas, pound signs no spaces...nothing worked...So my question is, can I use my hard drive as an original image to restore his TWO hard drives??? I have a single hard drive and his has two, we have different software cuz of the way they boot up!! but my hard drive dialed in on both machines, so what is all this talk about service codes numbers needing to match and stuff like that!! I am thinking I could just copy my hard drive to a new hard drive that he purchases and slap back in his?????? thanks everyone!!

So my question is, can I use my hard drive as an original image to restore his TWO hard drives???No. You could restore your harddrive to his tivo's primary drive, and then wipe his second drive and add it fresh to the setup, but you can't just copy your single drive to both of his drives and have it magically work.

Series 1 Tivos haven't been manufactured for about 4 years.
Assuming that both Tivos are Philips models HDRxxx or PTVxxx, you can use your hard drive like puffdaddy said and reimage your dad's A drive, then add the second drive and expand it. One problems that could occur is that the hard drive in your Tivo which is likely 20GB or more is larger than the A drive in your dad's tivo which is likely under 15GB in which case, you'll have to get an image elsewhere. Another problem could be that one of your dad's hard drives (the A drive) is bad and shouldn't be used. In either case, I'd get a new larger hard drive and use the opportunity to upgrade.
