need to erase drive?

I created an image for a friend, it didn't seem to work in his Tivo, so I now want to install this in my own Tivo. Do I have to erase drive before i try and install new software on the drive or will the copy process wipe the drive clean? They are different models so i need to reinstall software on the drive.

You don't need to erase anything; mfsrestore will wipe the drive and install the new image.
